Looking for a few good homes....LOL

I have decided to thin down the pack to free up some time, energy and money.  No one is going anywhere unless it's a good and compatible home, so no worries.

Greta is 3 years old, spayed, crate trained, walks well on a leash.  She had to have extensive hip surgery and will always have a limp, but she'd be a good walking companion for someone who is a bit slow.  She's people oriented and sweet as can be-very adaptable-she came out of a bad situation and really needs a quiet, happy home.  She loves car rides.

Oliver is 10 months old, neutered, knows basic commands....he's a soft dog-again, likes quiet.  He is also crate trained and walks well on the leash.  He likes to chew and chase his toys.  He is shy around children, he's going to be a cuddle puppy for life.  I wanted to train him for service work, but he's too shy for that to really work out well, so he needs a quiet home where he can be loved for the sensitive soul he is.

Lily really needs a little old lady who will hold her all day.  She's deaf and will never be able to go out except on a leash-but she adores body contact and being held in a blanket.  She might work with a mature child who understands handicaps and special needs-but she is never going to be a dog that can run down the street, etc.   She does like to play tug, but her favorite thing is laps and cuddles.

Cody has to stay because he won't let anyone touch him but me (he came like that, I didn't damage him...LOL) and I think Prissy has a place.

Again, no one is going anywhere unless the home is right, but I would like to be able to devote more time to my service dog project because I think it will have benefit to others.  Part of this exercise is coming to terms with whether or not I can really train a dog then let it go (which will be a huge stumbling block if I can't).

I would love to do search and rescue-but I don't have the fitness level to get through rough terrain with my bad leg and I'm not sure I could deal well with finding someone who didn't make it  I have the utmost respect for those people.  Both times I was wheelchair bound (I had two surgeries) I really wished I had a dog to do the simplest things-open the cabinet, bring the laundry basket to me so it's something I can relate to.

Deb, You know I fell in love with Oliver's happy face....he looks like my Maggie's momma!  But I don't have a quiet home!  I have two hormonal teenage daughters and their mother is starting menopause....and let me tell you....God has a sense of humor....why is it that most women go through menopause when their kids are in the throws of their teen rebellion/hormone explosion?  or when they are facing the empty nest?  Anyway, our house is not quiet...lots of coming and going, loud rock music, teen girl drama, menopausal mom drama and we have a 4 year old cat Honey who got used to her sister and brother but is none the less unhappy about their arrivals, 3 year old Maggie and 2 year old Levi.  It might be too much for your sweet pets!!  (My husband would kill me too!)  I was watching Oprah the other day and a lady said..."my husband would kill me if I got another pet"  Oprah said that was one of the reasons she didn't care to have a husband!  LOL    I totally understand that....when it's just you...you can have whatever you want and can afford...but I guess it is only fair to take our husband's wishes into account as they do live in the home...well, mine almost does!!! lol  Really, he shouldn't care at all....He's only home 6 or 8 days a month!!!!  Rambling......lol

You could always send Ollie over here 6 days a month....Ok, that was bad of me even to say.  Your HUSBAND should take Ollie on the road with him-he'd never let him go.

Oh god, now I'm talking to myself.  Greta would be a great trucker dog-she has a bad hip so she loves to ride in the car....LOL.  She's my errand dog this time of year-goes with me on my errands.

I agree with Oprah.  Unless that dude that lives with the wolves ditches his girlfriend (and I hope he doesn't) I'm pretty much doomed to live alone with all my creatures.  I had a friend actually say "No man would want a woman that keeps snakes...." and I could honestly say back "I wouldn't want anyone who was bothered by that...."  But actually, I know a lot of guys who think a woman handling a big snake is kind of hot.  (Men are just weird, aren't they ?)

Debra, just wanted to let you know that I think it's awsome that you have the desire and knowledge to train service dog's. I have a 24 yr. old son who suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2003 . Ryan requires 24 hour care . He has a labradoodle that we have been taking to obidience school. and then I'm hoping to be able to have him trained as a service dog for him.  Gus is his name, right now he is a handful still in the puppy stage. I personally think this is a very rewarding gesture. but of course i live in the other shoes, so to speak. And by the way Dan YOUR'E BUG MUST HAVE TR AVELED OVER THE INTERNET HA HA..!!!!!  ALL THE WAY TO S.W. KANSAS.WENT TO SEE MY PCP YESTERDAY i WAS CONCERNED ABOUT BEING DEHYDRATED BUT I'm ok for now. I have to check back with him on
thurs.the only good thing is I've lost 4lbs in 2 days.I'm now 6lbs. from onederland.        I just want to say to everyone on  here thanks. I rarely post anything on here, but  I read the post everyday. Just wish I wasn't so far from all.

It's good to hear from a "lurker" Becky!!! LOL  Even though you live in Kansas don't be a stranger on the OH boards.  We have many friends on the boards who don't live in the area.  We'd love to have you as one of our friends!!!  ONDERLAND...I can't wait until I get there one of these days!!!  Good luck with training your labradoodle!

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

You picked a good dog for the job.  Labradoodle's are incredibly smart and trainable-but they need a job.  People that buy them for backyard dogs are usually unhappy.  Basic obedience is great because it teaches them to learn how to learn so to speak.
