Deb, I too was struck by how awesome it was that we were able to finish a 5K on Saturday.  I could have probably done it twice and been OK. That is so amazing to me!

This surgery has brought me so far in such a short time.  I have minimal back pain now which is a miracle.  One year ago tomorrow I woke from back surgery and realized I couldn't move my left leg. It was a surgical error.  If you need or want details PM me since this is a pulic forum.  I was unable to walk since I couldn't control the left leg.  I spent almost a week in Jim Thorpe, 10 weeks in a walker, and another few months on a cane.  What a difference one short year has made.  I finished a 5K without pain!  Just to be able to walk is still amazing to me at times.

By the way, I LOVE your MBTs and want a pair!  For ugly shoes yours are pretty cute!
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Honestly, I think they look like frankenstein shoes, but I can't figure out how to get the heel design in a true flat either-and they look a lot better than my frankenboot (brace).

I have a cadaver bone in my ankle because the doctor didn't think a hip graft was a good idea due to my size (and really, I hated the idea, but I would not have been able to mobilize at all because with with one leg gone I thrashed a lot).  I do appreciate the donation, but like any other recipient, I wish my own body would have provided....but yeah, during the walk I had the thought that there were really two people who never expected to do a 5k again finishing one....

I'll be starting back to Jim Thorpe water aerobics when it gets a little darker-I promised Mom I'd drive her through the winter.  That pool is yummy!

They used cadaver bone for my two cervical spine fusions.  The graft taken from the hip is a harder surgery to recover from than the fusion.  You made a good choice.

I was just amazed that they were worried about needing too BIG a piece of my, uh, bottom.  I was also worried about later on down the line when osteoporosis and thing would become an issue.  That was right after the big bone scandal and everyone joked I probably had Alistar Cook in my leg.
