Did Phen-Fen do anything to your heart???!!!

I went for my pre-op appointment yesterday with the cardiologist. I passed the stress test so I was cleared for surgery,,,.....but when he was listening to my heart he said that he heard a mur-mur and that there is proof that taking Phen-Fen had caused problem with the valves in peoples hearts and that he wants me to come back in for an ultrasound. Am I alone in this one or did this happen to anyone else???

There are many people effected by Phen-Fen use, some worse than others. I work with them everyday. I was one of the few lucky ones who was not.

Wow...I am really trying not to freak out about this....He talked like it could be not that big of deal. Like maybe it could be something that we might just wanna keep an eye on over the years to make sure that it doesn't get worse. By nature I am a worrier so this has really got me going. Kinda took my mind off of worrying about the surgery...(if you try to find the silver lining...)

I  have had  the  gastric bypass RNY  3 wks  ago  and  when I did the chemical stress test and
echo- they said I have a mur mur  and also  right branch  braichial  thing  -  I  did not take Phen-fen.  But since  I had the surgery and was  put  in the  ICU  for  2  days  for  heart block  problems-  I have had another  echo gram and xray  to see how my heart is doing now.
I  was told on Monday that it looks  like from the tests   that  everything  was in normal ranges.
I was  told to follow up in 6 months  to  be rechecked  for  what  they had found  at  the first
dr's office.  But I am going  to  another  cardiologist now  to get  my  meds  correct  and to
keep on top of things.  Cause I really  crashed after the surgery  and  really scared my family.
I was out of it .
So  just  know  that   I am older than you  and  had no idea  anything like this could happen.
Just ask  the  Dr   if  you are  in  good enough  heart  condition to  go through with it.
Good luck  and remember  to ask the right questions.

I took phen fen and like alot of women I was not lucky. Worse part was I only took it for two weeks. I know two women who took it longer and have real serious problems. I remember a piece of advice from my Dad and this is it...Why worry about what could happen....start worrying when its happening...because worrying about what could happen is as useful as wiping your butt before you go to the bathroom
