I am excited
I am back at it and I am going through with the GBS now. My husband isn't being negative anymore. I sat him down and told him exactly how I felt and how my weight is affecting me. He isn't completely supportive of the GBS. He would rather me get the lap band, but he understands why I am doing it. I have gotten my cardiac clearance and I go to the pulmonologist on the 24th then have the pych eval on Oct 2. My surgeon's nurse told me to expect to have surgery in January. There are 20 people ahead of me. I am so excited and the year can't go quickly enough for me. I hope to meet some people in my area, make some friends and start a new way of living.
Dumb question here but was is GBS? Is that the RNY Gastric Bypass?

It is at 6:30 on Friday at Mimi's on 71st. Ask for the "OH" group. (thanks to Sherrie for getting these reservations)
And welcome to your Oklahoma OH family. This is the place to come for support, information and hopefully a few laughs. We are here for each other and no wls topic is off limits!
WLS has been the best thing ever. I am loving all the changes! (I had the sleeve!)
Hoping to meet you next week!

Welcome to the forum. I am so pleased with my WLS but I think you have to choose what you think will work best for you-not what your hubby thinks. EVERY WLS has complications, and some people go into banding thinking there are none with the band and that simply isn't true. I've had to be unfilled a couple of times, that isn't really a complication, but I'm just saying that the band takes a lot of watching too. The benefit of the adjustable part comes with it's own set of risks.
I've known people with all types of surgeries and every type has it's pros can cons. What I advise people to do is talk about what the daily life is after surgery and see what fits with your lifestyle and strengths the best. I sit here gazing at my unopened bottle of vitamins and know I'd be in real trouble with a malabsoprtive procedure......LOL.
You are very lucky to live in Oklahoma-we have one of the best state groups on OH. Not only has this group helped me with my Weight Loss, it has helped reconnect me with my home state-I just moved back last year after 20 years away.
I have heard of the DR G group, however I have never gone.. The OH members in the surrounding area of Tulsa get together once a month of a meet and greet type thing.. I have gone to 2 and it has consisted of members that have had the surgery and thinking about doing the surgery.. Anyone and everyone is invited.. Than we have OKC members that also do the same thing at a eatery in OKC..
The reason I am chosing DR B at Weight Wise in Edmond is because I am self pay, meaning my insurance does not cover the procedure any way shape or form. And unless my hubby switches jobs, or I go get a job and put my 4 year old in day care. It's not going to happen. We have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska and they just wont cover it.. So we are paying for my surgery out of pocket.. I have attended a seminar in Emond and the first appt I could get with DR B was Oct 2.. So I am waiting paitently and ready to get started..
See you soon,
Sheila
