Wishing you have a quick and easy approval for you RNY. I don't know anything about the physicians at Surgery Associates sine I used different Dr. I am sure there are some on the board that have and can give your info.

Ask any questions you need to, we are all happy to respond.

Welcome to the board!  I know there are all great doctors in Oklahoma to do the WLS surgeries so you made a great choice!  I look forward to knowing you better.  I'm a 4+ year RNY post-op myself and down more than 160 lbs.  I am so happy with my decision to have WLS.

Congratulations on making a decision.  I think that is the hardest part (well until liquids for 2 weeks post-op!)

Can't help you on the surgeon part.  I used a group in OKC.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Happy Cat is so right! Making up your mind to do this is the hardest part. I attended a Seminar  one year before I went back for the same seminar. During that  first year, I was all about doing this on my own....I now know I can't.  Oh I can lose the weight, but it WILL come back!
Welcome to this Board! There are people on here from Tulsa, who will be able to help you with your other questions. Just keep coming back here. You will also learn many things about pre-op and post op from the friends on this board....Welcome!  Sherry

Congratulations on being proactive about your health! I sincerely hope that United will pay for your surgery. I have United now, but my surgery was done before I got United.

I am a self pay RNY patient of Dr. Walton in Edmond. I am down 151 pounds, 30 of which was pre-surgery. Since surgery in Oct 2007, i have lost 121 pounds in 11 months.

My blood pressure is normal, my osteo-arthritis is resolved, my heart no longer flutters along with my arm going numb, my joints don't hurt. I have no regrets over the decision except that I wish I'd done it sooner.

I'll be sending up good thoughts that your surgery will be paid for. Looking forward to seeing you on the losers bench with us!

I thought I had the surgeon that practises there web site but I must have delted it urrgh. I do know this that hospital is the only other hospital in Oklahoma that is a certified Center Of Excellance and the surgeon that preforms the WLS has to be certified throught them so thats a major plus. Please do alot of research and make sure you are well informed... this life changing experience can either be smooth sailing or rocky there are alot of emotions and new feelings as the weight comes off. Just make sure you can deal with them and please stay on OH and post about your feelings or questions...You are making a great decision that can be the journey of a life time... I would do mine again.....
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

Hello Shantell!
I'm also pretty new to the OK forum.  I am planning on Having RNY also.  I'm going to Baily's in Owasso with Dr. Gorospe.  He's pretty famous (lol) here in OK.  But there are many wonderful docs in OK.  The Ok Forum has wonderful people and can help you with most all of your questions.  They are a great group to hang with!  Welcome!

i called my insurance company to find out if they would cover gastric bypass.........they do yea.............. i only have to meet 3 qualifiers   1. be over 21, 2. have a bmi of 40 or more...... and 3. have been morbid obese for at least three years........ I have an ok to use the surgical assoc drs and they will pay 80% after my 400 deductable. i went to my meeting last monday to get more info, my pcp agreed to help me get all the arrangments for whatever test I need to have done and medical records sent the last 5 years of medical records to the surg assoc office. I spoke with surg assoc office and they said they would be calling me shortly with my first apptment date i am hopeing it is soon. I have been wanting this bypass sice 2005, but i worked for a hopital and bc bs wouldn't cover the bypass, thank god my husband took this new job.
