Dizziness...

Does any one else experience real dizziness when they stand up from a sitting position?  I don't really know what's going on, but for the last week or so, when I stand up (quickly or slowly) I get real fuzzy and everything goes dark gray and I have to close my eyes and just stop moving for a second.  It goes away pretty much immediately, but if I don't quit moving and just stop for that second, I have no doubt that I would pass out.  I'm getting plenty of fluids.  Any one else?  Any ideas?

Funny you should bring this up as I have been having small bouts with dizziness but today had a significant one. I was at Walmart so I bought an EAS carb control protein bar and it made a world of difference! Try increasing your protein and see if that helps.

This happens to me every now and again.  But for me, it's not too bad and passes very quickly.

Maybe youre blood pressure is too low?  Maybe low iron or potassium?  Have you had your labs drawn?

It sounds like you maybe having orthostatic hypotension, which is when you blood pressure drops when you stand too quickly after sitting, lying, or squatting. Make sure you're getting your fluids in. (Dehydration can cause this, too.) If you're on any blood pressure medication, call your doctor/PCP and have that checked.

When you're sitting, your legs are bent at the knee and that can cause pooling of blood in your legs. Then when you stand, it takes some a bit of time for your blood vessels in your legs to constrict to keep your blood pressure up. If you body doesn't compensate fast enough, it causes a dip in your blood pressure and circulation to your head and upper body .... causing dizziness.

If you get up gradually, rather than suddenly, it should help. If it continues or worsens, see your PCP.

Additionally, ear infections, viruses, and other issues can cause dizziness. If it worsens or continues, go see your PCP.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

I sit with my legs crossed indian style 95% of the time.  Maybe that's why I sometimes get light-headed.  Makes a lot of sense!  But then I've always been "dizzy"!  Ha!
