Just an advice

If any of you are blood donors (I donate platelets regularly), here is what I learned today: do not go early in the morning and make sure you eat and drink as much as possible before going there. I had eaten some breakfast, but not much of it!

For the first time since surgery, almost seven months now, I almost got sick and got sooooo light headed that I had to eat a bag of those little pretzels, 110 calories and 23 gr.of carbs (how sick is that, I even looked at the calories!!) before I could get off the chair...I just felt sick to my stomach and just really, really weak.

So, lesson learned for next time...since Oklahoma Blood Institute has my number on speed dial! This is the second time I go since surgery, but last time I went at 12:30 and I had breakfast, lunch and 32 oz of water before going there.

Anna,  I love the new avatar you look AWESOME!  Great job!  I myself have always been too low iron to give blood much.  I haven't passed the pre-test to give blood in the last 5 years!  I would definitely be a bit scared to give blood.  If I ever do I will make sure to do so after a couple of good meals and lots to drink.  Thanks for the warning!!  Hope you are feeling better!
