Yesterday was a solemn day, made all the more solemn by the news of Ike looming off the coast.  Prayers for all our friends and relatives in South Texas please, and if you don't mind, another one for all the pets.

Yes it was.  My daughter in law's sister lives north of Galveston and this was the 2nd time in a short time that she has been evacuated with her baby, husband and 2 dogs.  She is in north Houston now and hoping that she doesn't have to go any further north.  I know that they are all so ready for this hurricane season to be over with.

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

Thanks, Debra!  I have quite a few aquaintances who evacuated the areas south of me (I am in the upper NW tip of Houston, so not under mandatory evac).  Many went to Dallas, San Antonio, etc.  Let me tell ya, this SUCKS!  Gas and water were already GONE by yesterday morning, schools closed (thank goodness) today, some neighbors are boarding up as we speak, and we are moving everything into the garage (plants, lawn furniture, etc)

Like you, I am concerned with the animals.  My kitty is an indoor one, so he is taken care of already.  The guinea pig, hamster, and mice have all had their cages moved to a central, windowless room for safe keeping, with food and water filled up.   In my neighborhood, there are quite a few outside kitties that roam all night before going to sleep in their own homes.  I am going to be putting out food and clean water after the storm subsides so that if there are any critters, they can at least get some food and not starve.  There are SO many squirrels, lizards, and birds, I feel bad that they are outside to endure this craptacular storm.  Siiiighhhh....

OK, y'all...time to finish "hunkerin' down" as they say down here!  I'll pop in and let ya know how things are as soon as I can.

If there is one thing I can say about Texans it's that they are some tough hombres.  My thoughts and prayers to all of them that no one gets seriously injured and that Ike weakens somewhat.

Janice, I have been thinking about you and the kids all day.  Be safe!  Thanks for feeding the beasties that have to endure this storm outside.

You are so sweet!  Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts!  It is a little after 8 pm, VERY dark, and winds of about 40 mph, gusts even more.  We haven't had any rain yet, but it is coming!!  So far, so good...well, except for the fact that I think I have some head trauma from being beaned with a pine cone at 50 mph while I was getting something from the garage, lol

Hoping you remain safe. This thing looks nasty! My nephew lives in Houston but I am not sure which part. They evacuated the branch of my company down in Houston -- could not take chances with the high dollar inventory we keep!
