colonscopy prep!

Turning 50 just bites!  I saw the gasterenterologist yesterday to get set up for my baseline old fart colonscopy.  The good thing- liked the doctor.  But, the prep he is prescribing since I have a sleeve is going to be horrible.  I am required to do a 2 day full liquid diet followed by one day of clear liquids.  On the 2nd and 3rd days of the prep I have to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate.  I am so not looking forward to this prep.  I am going to lose 3 days of my life to get ready and do this screening!  Has anyone else had to do such a brutal prep??

I asked about the pill prep and was told it could be dangerous for a WLS patient.  That prep is 32!!! big tablets.  They worry one or more would get stuck in tiny tummy and cause a blockage.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Poor thing!  I hate it that you have to go through that.  And thats a preventative measure!  The pain we go through!!!!

Denise!! You are looking good! I love the new Avitar!!!  Sorry to hear about your upcoming scope! The scope is actually nothing compared to the prep is it?? I have no idea on how it would be with a little tummy, but I just wish you lots of luck....I am PMing you on another issue. But good luck with this other! lol I'm so glad I had mine done last year!!

The prep sounds like no fun, but think of the pounds you could potentially lose! Every one counts -- no matter how lost!

Well, I had my screening *old fart* colonoscopy done just a couple of weeks before my VSG. I had a different prep. It wasn't a walk in the park, but yours sounds worse to me!

My instructions were clear liquids only the day before the the colonoscopy. Also, 2 or 4 (sorry, memory is going) dulcolax laxative tablets at 9am the day before the colonoscopy. Then a bit later in the morning, I had to take an *entire bottle* of Miralax. It was to be a capful of Miralax in 8 ozs. of clear liquid every 30 minutes until the bottle was EMPTY. Now let me tell you, I learned a new lesson about the effectiveness of Miralax!

The next morning I was NPO until the procedure. The only problem was that my colonoscopy got moved to later in the day and they wanted me to drink a small bottle of something similar to mag citrate that morning ... but I couldn't get it down. I called, explained, and they said it was fine. I had my colonoscopy at 4PM that day and all was fine.

I don't remember much of anything after they rolled me into the room. The procedure was a piece cake ... it's the prep that nearly turned me wrong side out the day before! ; )

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

I am not worried about the procedure itself.  I get happy drugs for that. Think I could talk them into some drugs to get me through the prep?  Looks like I will be housebound for 2 whole days prior to the surgery.  With a whole bottle of mag citrate each of those days travel farther than a few feet from the bathroom will not be an option.  Guess I better get a good book and some movies.  I wonder how I avoid getting dehydrated?  Wonder if I can get more liquids in than I am getting rid of?  OK, enough poop talk.  Big girl panties in place!
