Very OT but need to share with my "family"

I have mentioned the problems I have been having with my daughter's recent neurocognitive testing and school. Our meeting last week left some concerns unaddressed until our next meeting on 9/29. I have been researching like crazy and over the weekend sent an email to the Okla Disability Law Center. Today one of the attorneys called me and it seems I have more of a case than I even realized. She is going with me to the next meeting! Maybe, just maybe, my daughter's outlook is not as bleak as I first thought if she is provided with the most appropriate interventions!

Nancy I am so happy that you have found an advocate for your family!  This is an awesome outcome already and I am sure much more will unfold by the grace of God.  It's nice to know that when one hopes and prays that although we know we are heard, something is provided that confirms He is there for us!

By the way - I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new avatar!  You look SOOOOOOOOPER!!!

Give the girls & the big guy a hug for me!  Things WILL work out!  Hard work always pays off!

That's great!  I'm sure the school will probably wind up bending over backwards to make sure your daughter gets what she needs.

I'm so glad to hear your news Nancy.  We have to battle for our kids.  If we don't, who will?  I had to intervene with those that be for my daughter when she was in school.  I'm so glad that you were able to get an attorney with the disability law center to come to your meeting.  I think the school system will more than likely sit up and pay attention.  It's a shame that we have to resort to that but they are our children....  Have a good one.

I too have struggled with the school systems over my oldest son.  There is a Law called "No Child Left Behind"!!!!  There is funding that these schools get that pays for the school to ensure our kids are getting the help they need. SO sad that so many schools apply for the funding, recieve the funding but do not apply it as they should!

I am so glad you have someone to go with you to this!  Looking forward to hearing the outcome.

I have had several passions in my life -- my passion for nursing, adoption, and most recently weight loss. I think I am going to add a new one -- special education advocacy. Last night I gathered 92 pages of evaluations on Giorgi to fax to the attorney today (and that is NOT all of it). As I sat and reread through that info this morning it just made me sick -- and mad that I did not catch what the school was doing sooner! In some ways I allowed it to happen by trusting what the school was telling me. BUT NO MORE! I am bound and determined to see that Giorgi gets EVERY service and opportunity she needs to be as successful as she can be in life. And it won't just end with Giorgi! I know there are other families out there who are in my shoes but don't know how to fight or that they can. Somehow, I plan to get the word out!

I am so glad that you have been given your new self-confidence....  Giorgi needs it right now.  Don't blame yourself for allowing this.  We've all been there thinking that this teacher, that doctor or that one and this one should know and we put our trust in those that be.  She deserves evry OPPORTUNITY and by golly you're going to see to it now....  Don't look back on past bad decisions just look forward to her new opportunities!!!  You go...

You already know I am happy you are getting assistance in your fight.  As a special education teacher I wish more parents would advocate for their children.  It is so rare that I find parents that are willing to even be involved much less fight for their kids (unless they are suspended and lose the free baby-sitting services for a few days.)  I wish other parents understood that advocatingm for their kids was their job.

Go get 'em!  Giorgi deserves the best.  Poor kid had a tough start in life and deserves a break (well, other than hitting the adoption jackpot when she got you guys!)
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)
