2 months out and need IB Profrin? Can I take it?

I have hurt my lower left side of my back...that scaticia (however you spell it!) nerve thing.  OMG it hurts.  I couldn't sleep last night.  I have to work tomorrow and be on my game because I have been off work for 2 weeks now with Randy.  I need sleep.

Will my head fall off or what if I take IB Profrin?  It seems like Julia said to wait 3 months or maybe 6 months. I'm going to post this on the VSG board too just to see what others do.

Thanks for your help. -Amy

Amy, I would call the nurse's station at WW and ask.  I know that ibuprofen is hard on your tummy.  They may have another recommendation.  I did pretty well on arthritis strength Tylenol when I had to be off my arthritis meds.  You might also get some of the back pain Thermacare things.  You can strap omne of those babies on and it really helps.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Be careful if you put one of the Thermacare things on.  My friend had one around her neck and it fell in the automatic flushing toilet and clogged up the sewer system.  She's totally embarrassed but I think it's funny...donna

My back kills me after I eat.  I think it is gas... then it hurts off an on at other times.  I put the icy hot patch on and take IB P myself.... I asked Dr. B and he said go for it.  good luck, hope the back clears up for us both! Morgan

Personally, I would not do ibuprofen. I would definitely ask Dr B before doing so as there may be different reasons why some may be allowed sooner than others. for me it is a bleeding issue not worth risking.

Amy, first, call and ask your doctor. However, I have taken very strong non-steroidal anti-inflammatories with NO problem. I'm also taking medication for Osteoporosis (Boniva, then later Fosamax) that makes normal NSAIDS look like a minor issue. My surgeon has Ok'd both. I also have the green light to take oral steroids if/when needed. Both my rheumatologist and surgeon keep a close eye on my stomach ... and I've had no problems with my drugs post op. This is another reason I chose VSG ... these drugs would not have been an option with RNY or LapBand.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Amy - I don't know the answer but I would call the nurse's station too.  It's always staffed.  But I'm sorry you're in pain!  That's no way to spend your weekend!

Amy, I have back trouble and I used extra strenfth Tylenol.  It does it for me -- sciatica down the right leg just disappears !!!
