Good Advice (gonna take it myself)

I was thinking this morning about how in the business world I bounced back from crisis after crisis whereas this home stuff, illness, dying, etc. is sooooo much more difficult.  But, one of the things I didn't do in business was rag on myself for "losing a week due to crisis" which was exactly what I was doing this morning.  Many of us have gone through either recent surgeries or family events, so listen up-don't make your tire feelings even worse by chiding yourself for being behind on whatever IT is...

When I slaved away in what I used to think of as "the terrible castle" (it was really the Bank One Building in Dallas) I took every break in the action and went to Mexico, then came back and sorted through things till the next crisis.  I can't do that right now, but I need to apply the same concept-after the poo settles from hitting the fan, priority one is rest, relaxation and recovery in order to be ready for the next one.

In Dallas-that mean detoxing from the Starbucks I used to keep going, drinking lots of water and getting 8 hours sleep (usually for the first time in months).  I can do those things here too, although in this life I don't seem to need excessive caffiene to get through it.

I can't go to Mexico right now but I can watch a movie or read a book.  This "down time" is also a good time to look at priorities-in all the things that slid last week-which ones do I really care about and which ones just don't matter?  What matters to me is always changing, and I'm really ok with that even if no one else is.  I actually believe there is some scientific/spiritual basis to this-my brain seeks out the things which are lacking in order to achieve balance.

When you are really tired or stressed, figure out what restores YOU and do it.  You are no good to anyone else if you aren't good to yourself.

Absolutely!!! I was going to call you yesterday when we were on our way to Rudy's (we got a Parakeet), but left my cell phone at home and didn't have your number memorized. Shucks!

Take your time, rest, enjoy something you love, and breathe. Cuddle your pups, talk it over with Oliver (the gray) and enjoy your slitherers. Also, let's get together soon and hit a bookstore, or yarn shop, and knit.. or read, or whatever! : )

BIG HUGS!!!

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

I love Parakeets!  I want one of those Rosella ones really bad-the ones that look like fat budgies....

Oh, the rosellas are too gorgeous for words! They are stunningly beautiful and SO colorful!

We had a great time at Rudy's and got to actually visit with Rudy. It was busy, so we didn't get to visit long. We picked out a very young little blue and white parakeet. It's still has a partially black beak because it is so young. It's eating well and we figured the younger the better as far as training. ; ) The little one is so young, we have no idea if it's a boy, or girl, yet ... won't know for several more months. Thus, no name currently.

I've had lots of fun at THIS website learning about budgie color genetics and color mutations. There's color pictures and the more you click, the more information available about color genetics. (I love this kind of stuff!)

Oliver is such a character. They are SO smart and wonderful!

You snake sounds delightful, too. I guess I've never realized they had personalities. Duh!

Earlier this week I had a Dr. appt. on N. May. Before the appt we stopped by Akins Natural Foods. After the appt. we went to Birds Etc. It was the first time I had been there. WOW! I had never seen a Hyacinth Macaw up close and personal before .... and they had THREE of them! Also, a Blue & Gold, Scarlet, and Greenwing. Rosellas there, too. Lots of ****atoos ... and I also saw a Major Mitchell's in person for the first time! : ) The shop isn't very big, but it's packed with exotic birds in their bird room in the back. If you haven't been there yet, it's worth the visit!

Since temps are cooling a bit, I think it would be loads of fun to have a meetup and walk at the zoo. Anybody interested? Since school is back in session, it shouldn't be too crowded. They let us bring in our drinks, too.

I hope you have a much better week this week and I hope to see you soon!

Shelly

McCaws are so cool.  My aunt has a Scarlett and a Harlequin (which is something like a blue/gold cross with greenwing).....They are amazing critters.  I would love a rose breasted ****atoo some time-I keep looking at the Goffin at Rudy's....I had a Goffin once and while they aren't big talkers, they are the sweetest tempered birds ever.  Not as outgoing as sulphur crested, but not as much of a handful either.

I still regret not buying the blue Quaker Parakeet-they are another very sweet bird.  But I'd kind of like just an old fashioned parekeet-because you can train them without losing fingers.  My favorite one was Tweety-a bird I had when I was growing up-and he was a fantastabulous pet, a big talker and had a few tricks.  He was blue.

The zoo sounds great.  I'm in-this week kind of sucks, but next week would be great cause everyone will be at the fair-WE could go to the zoo!

eek, hit reply too soon.

I've been getting double doses of fur/feather/scaley kids the past couple of days.  Oliver the parrot had a bit of a tantrum because I was gone so much, but we worked through it.  He feels comfortable enough with me to be ornery (as opposed to frightened) and so instead of soothing him I have to show him I'm not afraid....or mad, just want him to behave.  He decided he wasn't going to step up on his perch to go into the kitchen, and was pretty ugly about it.  After rubbing him gently with the perch to satisfy myself that he wasn't afraid, just being a buttocks, I stuck it under his legs until he stood up on it.  What was funny as heck, was he chuckled when he hopped on it......he's such a goober.

Diego, one of the baby burms is shedding and that makes him cranky.....but dramatically so.  I picked him up, realized he was in shed, held him for a minute, then put him back.  No need to stress him out.  He cruised around his tub for five minutes hissing just to make sure I understood he was OUT OF SORTS.....then crawled in his hid and stuck his head under his butt......I almost peed myself I laughed so hard.
