Something wicked this way came...WTH??? (TMI warning)

I have had major diarrhea last night and again tonight.  Oh, ok, and intermittantly today.  I'm taking Immodium and trying to hydrate big time so I won't have to have the needle.

But what the hell?  Why do I always get diarrhea?  I'm supposed to get clogged up - not melt!

Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?  I don't really think it's the tiny tummy.  Maybe I picked up a bug in Mexico over the weekend?  But we stayed at a very nice resort and drank bottled water.

Anyway, if you have words of wisdom I would love to hear them!

Probiotics, either in pill form or yogurt, will help restore the good flora.  It's not a cure per se, but it does help shorten the duration of the trots.

Those bugs aren't just passed in water. If you had any fresh fruits or veggies that weren't cooked ... like a salad or something similar, you can still be exposed. If the fruit or veggies were handled by someone that had washed their hands in regular tap water, or if they washed the fresh fruits and veggies in contaminated, regular tap water and then served them ... well, there you go.

Don't ask me how I know.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

How odd is it that we covered this stuff last week at schhol and how bugs can be passed through tap water and poorly washed veggies and such.  We even talked about Mexico.  I feel your pain Kim, I had the projectiles last Saturday.  Do not eat smoked sausage with bell peppers and onions then go out and have a shot of Jagermeister on top of that.  BAD BAD BAD idea.

Kim,

I know you just got back to town, but there seems to be a raging Rotavirus going around Edmond this last week.  Pretty much everybody at my house has had it... and it stinks (literally and figuratively.)

Keep pushing the fluids - hope you feel better soon.  At our house it seems to be running it's course in about 36 hours.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

I'm sorry to hear that you're not feeling so well.  I would ALMOST trade you - I have the opposite problem; very painful and excruciating.  I emailed Dr. B 3 weeks ago, but no response.  I guess I will have to break down and call.

Have you tried daily Benefiber? No drugs or chemicals....just fiber. Works wonders. Helps prevent any problems.

For constipation, Miralax is very good and not harsh. Most surgeons approve Miralax, but check with your surgeon to be sure.

Give them a call in the morning ...the longer you wait, the worse your problem will get.

Edited to add: Benefiber is used more to prevent constipation and not a treatment for an immediate problem! The daily recommended intake of fiber is 25 - 30 grams per day. With smaller stomachs, it's hard for us to get that amount most of the time ... that's why I take Benefiber. It's for health and to keep things moving.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly
