So close and so scared!
Hi! I'm new to the board! I just wondered if anyone is as scared as I am about having the surgery. I haven't been thinking about the risks so much since I finally made up my mind to have the surgery. Now that I am so close to getting it I'm scared! I have been researching all the good things about it and I convinced myself its gonna be the best thing I've ever done for myself. But I've done a little more research on the risks! I know most people succeed and do well. I just worry what if I'm not one of those people! OMGsh sorry this is just an anxious day for me!
Hi, there.
Welcome to the Oklahoma Board! Glad to have you. I understand your fears. Focus on why you want and need this surgery. Focus on how it will help you and change your life. That will build your confidence for your decision. Surgery always makes one pause. You can push through it. If you can narrow down what you're fearful of, we can try to help you through it.
You'll be fine.
Blessings,
Mary

Hi welcome to the boards. Like everyone else said if you didnt feel nervous or scared, then something would be wrong. You need to focus on why you choose WLS and what things will get better b/c of it. I cant speak for anyone else here, but i can tell you that I was far more scared of not doing anything about my obesity and my diabetes, and i was about any of the risks. If you read my profile you will be able to understand that with my mom having RNY and the compl. she had, I still had surgery.

I used a mind game on my self...when I started getting scared of the surgery, I thought about all the awful health problems that would surely occur without it-that's scarey too, but it got my mind off being scared of the surgey.
As for the success thing-if you never try you will certainly not succeed.
Guess what? You are normal!! I was freaked out big time and thought seriously about bolting just before they took me back. This will all be in your rear view mirror in no time. Just hang in there. The risks and complications are very low. You will know exactly what to look for and if there is a problem they will be all over it.

Thank you all for the encouraging words! I have read several of your journals now. I've read so many but I guess I just needed a refresher! I wasn't as scared until I talked to a friend today and she told me her brother isn't doing very well after his surgery. She said he just doesn't look healthy right now. He is having heart problems. I think he's 2 or 3 years out from his surgery.
I know there are risks, but my current health isn't so great either. I am going to the Doc today because my head is about to explode. My B/P is high and I am already on 2 BP meds! I think the fear is a little of not feeling well either!
I'm really thankful for this page too. And all of the wonderful People on here!

My suggestion -- attend as many support group meetings as you can! I too thought I would be the one person to have the worst complications. I attended my last pre surgery support group 4 days before my surgery. As I sat there looking around at the approximately 80 people who had surgery, and most without complications, a calm came over me and I knew I would be okay.
