Does Anybody Else Not Know

What they want to be when they grow up?   I'm having a midlife crisis morning......

And I don't mean to complain-I know I'm very lucky and I'm pretty good at several things that could actually make money......le sigh.  No focus.  And I really really want to work from the house or at least be able to take a dog to work with me.  No, I'll need to work from the house.  Or rent an office.  And do what?????

One of the big draws of moving back to OKC was the lower cost of living and affordable yard space-so I don't have to make a fortune and it is conceivable that I can work from the house....writer/artist/candlestick maker.  Not really interested in doing the accounting or compliance thing any more-no suit jobs.  I am proud to say I don't own a suit and the only dresses I have are cute little cover ups.  No regrets about having lived that life, just way over it.

I'm doing the Puggerfest thing now to dabble in graphic arts again, meet people AND help the pugs-and that's been really fun.  It's just really awkward when people ask me what I "do" because I do a lot of stuff....and the stuff I do for money isn't ever my best stuff. (Articles on online auctions, etc....bleah).  Why does money suck the life right out of art?

I looked into setting up a dog rescue-but I don't think I have the backbone for it-I'd end up one of those people on animal cops with more animals than they can take care of.  Not really likin the party idea where I display animals-too stressful for the animals.

Thought about going back to school to get certified to teach-but I think my mouth would get me into trouble and I've paid enough to the higher education system.  Freelance computer tech-been there, done that, hated it hated it hated it.  Adult education-adults are the biggest babies of all.....not my gig.  Can't bring the dogs if I owned a coffee shop or ice cream store and God knows I hate doing dishes.

And, in my free form rambling-I don't want to be tied to a location.....I want a portable business. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH.

Time to take Moonie in for his shots.  Will take pictures.

I don't know what I want to be when I grow up either like you and Sherri.  I never set out to be in my business though.  It does pay the bills nicely but I can't say that I enjoy it at all.  I wish I could go back a few years knowing what I know now....of course with WLS back then as well.....

You could run a grooming shop out of a van or something...it has been done. And that would give the perfect reason to bring your pets to work ;)

I agree with the groomer comment. You could even groom from your home. I've looked into it and the groomer schools only take like a semister to finish, and they're fairly afordable. A businsess might be slow at first but i'm sure it would pick up pretty quickly if you have friends in the Dog  circut....Just something to think about. I for one thought I knew what I wanted to do...thought I had my future lined out...but sometimes i get bored thinking about it and start to feel restless so i know where your comming from.

Hi, Debra.
If money, time, etc. were no consideration, what would you do with your life? Think BIG, and give me three (if you're game).
Blessings,
Mary

I would do oceanic research like Jacques Cousteau (not his offspring),  I would run a non profit game preserve specializing in endangered species and maintaining a healthy breeding population (a little different than a rescue), I would work to better understand communications, but human and animal.

Yes, I'm a huge dork.

When I was thinking about you today, Debra, having read about your love of animals, I thought of the animal preserve. I can tell you are very articulate and winsome. I would encourage you to look for philanthropists and backers and GO FOR IT! You can draw a good salary and do something about which you're passionate.
Blessings,
Mary

People love to spoil their dogs. What about a, don't laugh, dog wash? You supply the equipment and people PAY YOU to wash their dogs with it. Maybe open a doggie boutique? Since you already do online sales maybe you can expand that until you can open a brick and mortar. Lately, I've wanted to open a plus-size resale shop.

Joy, we have a plus size resale shop in OKC and one in Guthrie.  I think one would do quite well in Tulsa.
