Surgery Postponed

Yep I'm writing in blue because that's what I am today.  I just got home from Tulsa.  I saw Dr. Britt and Dr. Kirk today at Bailey.  Dr. Kirk took one look at the site of my IVC Filter and said "No surgery for you, you have an infection in that site that needs to be absolutely clear before surgery."  I almost cried he said "Hun, I just want the safest & best surgery possible and don't want to see you back in here a week after surgery with an infection in your pouch."  This man is a total sweetheart and I am soooo grateful to him, I know they have my best interests & health at heart.

So, here I am almost through day 3 liquids only to be told I need to start eating again so they can up my antibiotics so they can clear up this infection.  I told him waiting until September 30th was gonna be a killer, and he said "September 30th, where did that date come from?"  I said Dr. Gorospe's nurse who said if I had any complications with this infection that would be the soonest I could get in.  He said "I'll be right back."  When he came back he said "How about Sept 3rd which is one week from tomorrow?"  So, all isn't sooo bad, however, the thought of starting this four days over again just plain SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted you guys to be the first to know...what a pain.  I've come all this way, done EVERYTHING by the book and now postponed.  I know it's for the best but is still a blow to the ole emotions.

HUGS.  I know it is tough but like you said they have your best interests and health in mind.  I called up there while ago telling them I would be by on Friday to see you and talk to Melissa about volunteering for the Walk From Obesity.  Now I know not to come up that day but come up next week instead.  Kinda nice when I call them and they know its me when they see the caller ID, lol.  Anyways back to all seriousness, I am glad they are getting you in quicker than the 30th.  Dr Kirk has such a bedside manner and is such a hoot.  Get that incision cleared up and hey (this is said to cheer you up) what is one week in the rest of your life?  You will be on the bench very soon hun.

I'm sorry that you are being postponed...  sorry you have starved yourself for nothing...  Sorry that you ended up getting this infection...

BUT, you are right.  IT is for your safety that you are being postponed!  I'm glad to hear that they postponed you for safety.  That shows you what good hands you are in!

Like Dan said, these days are a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of your life.  Before long, you'll be losing and eventually you'll just about forget about the starving and the postponing!

YEAH for Dr. Kirk for seeing to it that you aren't having to wait until Sept 30!!

Hang in there...

I am so sorry that your surgery had to be delayed.  It really is for your safety.  But, I know once we make up our mids to take this leap of faith (WLS) that we want it done yesterday and not next week.  Hang in there, take your antibiotics, and get better.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Sorry you're having to wait. I know you've been looking forward to this forEVER!

At least you didn't have to wait a MONTH! :) Everything happens for a reason! Just remember that!

So had you taken off from work and everything thinking it was sooner?

They told me I couldn't gain any more weight or I'd have to have one of those VC Filters, so I'm getting in all my water and trying to get out and walk a little more these days.

Thanks so much every one of you!  Yes Jat I was all set for my short term to start tomorrow.  However, Dr. Kirk said if I could stay home just the few extra days it would be best, so that is what I'm going to do.  I will go to work for half a day tomorrow and then be off for STD starting Thursday.

Thanks for the kind words Dan and I know you are right.  You guyz just make me SMILE which right now is pretty near impossibly. Thank You!!

I know you're blue and you also know that you are glad your doctor has you and your well-being on his top priority.  But, when I thought my surgery was going to be delayed a long time, I was grateful that my surgeon cared, and everyone was supportive, but all I could think was, "BLAH, BLAH, BLAH".  I understand.  You will be ok with it in a couple of days when your mind "adjusts",  and you'll be able to help someone else down the road with your story.  A guy on the men's forum was on the frickin surgery table, ready to be put under when his surgeon, looking over his chart for the final time, realized he hadn't been to a cardiologist to get his clearance.  The surgeon cancelled his surgery!!!  He was fit to be tied, of course, but now, is grateful for his surgeon's attention.  He, by the way, had the surgery 2 weeks later, and did great.  The 3rd is just a week away.  Congrats on not having to wait a month!  Michael.

Pumpkin!  That so, so sucks!  I would not be a happy camper if I was you either.  I'm not too patient when it comes to stuff like this.  I know you're just ready to "get 'er done"!

And it doesn't even help to know it's in your best interest.

So here's my suggestion.  Throw yourself in the middle of your living room floor!  (clear all sharp objects and animals first)  Pound the floor with feet and fists!  Allow some gutteral screaming and growling.  Conjure up a few tears to stream down your face and splat on the floor.  Breathe heavily causing your chest to expand and contract.

Now get up and go in your bedroom.  Put on your big girl panties!  That's what we always tell each other when the going gets tough and you had tough news today!

Hang in there!  You will be on the Loser's Bench soon!  This just give us time to decorate your spot.

Hugs to you - Kim

First of all, let me also chime in and agree it sucks, but it is in your best interest.  Next, please educate me.  What is a IVC filter?  The good news, it's only a week.  The bad news, it's a week.  My best to you and hope all goes well over the next week !!  INFECTION -- as Martha says, it's a bad thing !!
