HI guys!!!  I read up on all of you and everyone looks great!!  Ummmm I had surgery 23 days ago and was wondering how much I should have lost by now.  I know everyone is diff, but I havent lost in like a week??? Is this normal?!?!  I have lost 21 pounds since surgery.  I feel like I lost that in the 14 days of liquids.  PLUS (one more question) can you really sit down and drink a full cup of water?? I try to drink a glass of water before I go to bed and I am scared I am streaching out the new stomach!! Am I crazy or what??  Talk to you later!! Morgan

Crazy? No, cautious yes. I don't think water will stretch you. I goes thur me so quick i don't worry about it. I'm at about 90-100 oz a day of liquid. I usually drink 12-16 oz. in 20-30 min.  I have only lost 11 pounds since surgery but I can't sweat the small stuff. I'm working on an elliptical and walking daily so I'm getting enough exercise. Relax and enjoy the ride. Hugs, Cindy

The stall is normal. When you start eating again, after the liquid stage, your body tends to hold on to what your are feeding it, because it's getting food after two weeks of nothing. This will pass....give it a couple of weeks - on average that is how long the first stall lasts.

On the water - as long as you sip, and not take big drinks, you are ok. I drank 64 oz of water a day even during the liquid stage. Just take your time drinking that glass of water.

Hey Morgan!  I'm no doctor but I have seen many people post their concern about stretching the sleeve with water.  Everyone always responds that it won't stretch with water.  Basically if you drink "too much" water at one time it comes right back out.

I promise, promise, promise that the drinking gets easier.  I was so upset about the sipping and then just a couple of weeks ago I realized I am drinking pretty much normal!!!

You are at the perfect time for a stall.  Everyone stalls after they start mushies and eating real food.  I must have stalled because I only lost 11 lbs during a 4 week period.  I lost most of mine during the first two weeks too.  I think of it like this....yeah I might could have lost more doing WW or something but I wouldn't have been able to stick to it given my past track record.  With my sleeve, I'm stuck with it!!

You are not crazy you are just like us!  Okay...well....maybe that means you are crazy! LOL!!! -Amy

I am no expert but I wouldnt even call it a stall really.  Your banana (according to what my doc said) starts to be fully healed at about 1 month.  You are quickly approaching that time.  It seems a lot of you VSG folks seem to slow right at that time and then pick back up a week or two later, at least from what I have seen others say.  I wish ya the best of luck though, I know how much these "slow downs" suck

Hey Morgan
My first stall was between 3 and 4 weeks out., and lasted about 2 weeks.  Then overnight I lost 4 pounds.  DO NOT weigh yourself everyday.  Pick 1 day a week and weigh only on that day.  Everyday changes.  one day you will go up 1 pound and the next your back down.  This only causes frustration.  I found I am not as obsessed about it weighing once a week.

Morgan,

Dr. Walton told me at my first post-op diet class that once you go back on food (even mushy food) your body will start holding onto more water, because you need more fluid to be able to digest the food.  Evidently when we're on liquids for two weeks, the body kind of gives up on getting food and lets go of a bit more water than normal.

Anyhow, as everyone has said, now is a pretty normal spot for a "body readjustment period."  Mine lasted 27 days, starting right after I went onto mushy foods.... but after the 27 days, I lost 20 pounds over the next 10 days or so - there IS hope.  Hang in there and keep following the program, and try not to let your scale ruin your day.

John

PS - as for the water - I've gotten back to where I can suck down 8-12 ounces at a time.  I don't think there is any worry that it will stretch your sleeve.

Walton says tha****er just trickles on down.  I don't think there is any way to stretch out the banana with water!

I stalled as soon as I went on mushies.  And I think it was for about 11 days.  But I only lost 11 pounds in the first 2 weeks. Was I thrilled with that?  You can bet your booty I was!  I am now 12 weeks out and have lost 34 pounds post-op.  Slower than some but a success, I think.  I'm happy anyway!  Slow and steady wins the race!
