Cabbage and hamburger stew
This started out as an experiment and ended up being one of the best stews I have ever made. Dibs to an old roommate of mine and his wife who helped me create this recipe.
1 pound of 90/10 or better hamburger meat
1 small head of cabbage, chopped **edited**
2 cans (the ones about 15oz size) tomato sauce
1 15.5oz can of diced tomatos (I use italian blend from Del Monte)
1 can dark or light red kidney beans
1 can green beans
1 medium onion chopped
1 bell pepper chopped
1 can of corn (optional...I leave it out now post-op)
1 12oz can of V8
1 can beef broth or 3 beef bullion cubes
1 package Italian dressing mix (its normally right next the the Hidden Valley Ranch mix)
pinch of garlic salt
salt and pepper to taste
hot sauce to taste
Brown the hamburger meat normally removing any fat that is left over. Combine all ingredients in stock pot and cook on medium to medium high heat. I normally cook it about an hour and a half, stirring occassionally. This makes a good amount and you can just put the leftovers away in Ziplock containters in the freezer for a cold evening. This does come out a bit spicy so fair warning. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.
