Boiling eggs???

Apparently I can't even boil eggs correctly.  I've been enjoying deviled eggs but they sure are ugly.  They crack, the yellow part is lop-sided and they are a mess.  What am I doing wrong???  I put them in cold water and slowly bring them to a boil and cook for 15 minutes once boiling.

I mean, I knew I had limited culinary skills but this is ridiculous!!!

Do not use the freshest eggs -- that is straight from the store -- and punch a small hole in one end with a pin to help prevent cracking.

Will this make the yolk stay in them middle so they aren't so lop-sided?  (man, I have big worries in this world, don't I?)

Don't know about the lopsidedness (is that a word?), but wish that was all I had to be worried about! LOL

According to Martha....You bring your eggs to a boil, turn them off and then cover them and let sit for 15 min and they are perfect every time.....Now about them being lopsided, I have no idea....Martha puts her eggs into boiling water....I have never done that one! And I also agree that the fresh eggs are harder to peel. Are you taking them anywhere?? If not I'd just eat the things and who cares if they they are pretty! lol When I make them for me....If they tear, I might toss that one and fill the others up real high!! OR eat it right out of the bowl!! Ok that is it on eggs! lol
Goodmorning and have a great day all!   Sherry

P.S. I do like Martha, bring to a boil, turn off and cover for the 15 min and they are perfect!!

If you boil them too long, they will turn green.  I only boil mine 10 minutes and they are done all the way through.

And like Nancy said, don't use the fresh eggs.  Use them about a week after you bought them from the store.

I also put a little salt in the water.  I don't know why, that is just the way my mom did it.  lol

Sorry Dot!  I didn't think about this being food porn for some!

I know it seems like forever away right now but mushies really are right around the corner.  And I promise, promise that life gets better with mushies.  You WILL feel like a normal person again.  Just know that during the liquid stage you are letting everything heal and hydrate and are losing tons of weight!  It's so worth it.

I am by no means whatsoever an authority on this or anything else in the kitchen,  but 15 min. of cooking seems too long. I put them in cold water, bring them to a boil and let them cook for 5 to 7 minutes. I have never made deviled eggs, but the boiled eggs come out ok and they don't crack.

Thanks Anna!  I think I'm boiling too long so I'll try shorter.  But 5 mins seems really short.  If I cut those babies in 2 and they ooze I'm gonna be creeped out forever!!!
