Hi Cheryl,
I'm new here! Can you tell me what foamies are? I am looking to set my surgery date sometime in the end of Oct.  So I am spending some time now reading about and learning from everyone elses experiences.  Can you clue me in?

Sure Lisa I will be happy to fill you in. Foamies are what happens after you eat too much or too fast or both after your surgery. Very uncomfortable and gross but not too scary. You start to feel pressure from your tummette up to your throat. Then you throw up a ball of sticky slobber and like I did, you may do it several times. From what I understand this happens mostly with VSG. I hope that helps. Best of luck in your WLS quest. You will love the hospital and your Dr. I think he saved my life in many ways. Just let any of us know if you have any questions.
HUGS

I had what I thought was called foamies just once.  But there was so much "spit" in my mouth there is no way I could've had anything to drink.  Maybe I had the slimies instead!  Ha!

Sorry you had this experience but it is a lesson learned, I guess.  Although my one and only experience was after eating some chicken so I hadn't been bad, that I know of!

Sure let's you know that you've had surgery, huh?

Welcome, Lisa, to the Oklahoma forum!  You will find a supportive, informational and fun place to come on your weight loss journey.  (ingore any craziness you might have read yesterday - it's not the norm!)

This website has been a lifeline for me and I have found some truly remarkable people here that I consider friends.

You have picked an awesome surgeon in the Ragin' Cajun!  He rocks and you are in good hands.

I hope to meet you soon!

I read that drinking warm liquids will help with the foamies.  I can't remember where I read it though.

sorry you had this experience...  I guess we all have to go through it at sometime or another though.  It's part of the learning curve!

It also happens with RNY patients also....I can personally vouch for that.  It's not fun and you cannot chase it with water or it will be much much worse.  Not fun at all!!

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

Happens with the band too, but we refer to it as "sliming".  On a really spectacular episode, you spit out this giant bubble filled foam things...the first time it happened I sat down next to the toilet and said "that was pretty amazing".....bodies are strange things.
