Hanging out at the FBH

I just thought I would drop a note and let you know I'm hanging out in the ER getting fluids and potassium.  I started spiking a temp yesterday and so Dr. B in his very bossy way told me that I had to drive down and see him so here I am (believe me you do NOT tell the man no).  Four pokes and one central line later, I am starting to feel a little better.  I still have two more bags of potassium and finish up the third bag of fluids and then it's back on the road again to home sweet home in Wichita.  I think he is also going to start me on TPA (meal supplement fluids) to help boost me back up.  It has definitely been a hard month, but aside from probably being in debt the rest of my life due to 3 ER bills that I don't think my insurance is going to pay, I still do not regret my decision to get the surgery.  I wish I could stay longer and visit you all but I really do need to try to get back home so I can work and pay off all of these bills.  On a positive note, at least I do not have to keep getting poked 6 & 8 times trying to get an IV line started - hallelujah.  I honestly don't think I could handle another bad poke.  They stress me out so much.  Take care and tomorrow I finally get real cable again so I will be online more.

Thanks.

Kim

I am sorry you are having so much trouble, but by now you better than anyone knows how important it is to get those fluids in during the day.  Take the weekend to lie around, watch cable and drink (water).  I also keep room temp gatorade G2 (it's lower sugar/calorie) around and if it's been an outside kind of day, I drink about half a bottle of it.  Even before the band I alway had to water down my gatorade-it's just too strong, but the G2 I can drink right out of the bottle.

The magic fluid combination that my husband created for me Monday helped me the most.  He got unflavored Pedialite (which is salty), water and Gatorade.  The combination wasn't too sweet and gave me some needed nutrients.  I will plan on drinking as much as I can this weekend and I definitely will be taking it easy.

Thanks.

Kim

I was wondering where you were.....Man have you been chewed up and spit back out!! I am so glad you made the drive!! I understand the money worries, but your life is the most important thing here! Just pay everyone a little bit and they can't complain to much....I hope!! You take care and I am going to keep your husbands idea of the Pediolite in mind just in case!! Take care!

Kim - I really wish you would NOT attempt to take my place on the ALL-TIME COMPLICATION patient list dear!!!  I AM the complication QUEEN and I refuse to give up my crown!!!   I am glad you made the drive down - I was really getting worried about your extended issues!  Been there, done that!!  Do what the good Cajun Doc says and he'll get you through this!!  What doesn't kill us makes us stronger!!!!  (((((HUGE HUGS)))))  Have a safe trip back north sista girl!

Kim~ I seem to always end up with a central line too...  I feel your pain on that one.  True that at least you don't have to keep getting poked and prodded for bad IVs.  I hope you start feeling better soon and I'm glad you don't regret your surgery.
