Nausea is Really Getting To Me

I am really trying to follow the plan.  I have been to the ER twice in two weeks and then Dr. B. also had me get a CT scan Friday to try and find out why I have such bad shoulder pain and nausea.  I am taking Zofran 3 to 4 times a day and some days are bearable and some are not.  This morning is one of the NOT.  I was short on my 64 oz. by about 10 oz yesterday because I was so nauseaus and this morning I couldn't get out of the shower fast enough because I thought I was going to pass out.  I made it to my bed sopping wet and laid there for about 2 minutes and then the nauseau hit me.  I made it to the bathroom before I got sick and I have been so sick all day.  I've taken two Zofran so far and have only gotten about 10 oz of water in so far.  I know I'm going to dehydrate and honestly I cannot go back to that stupid hospital.  They poked me 8 times (and 6 times the time before) last time just to get an IV in and I just don't have the energy or willpower to go through that again.  I really need some encouragement.  I'm trying to work and make it through this but I am honestly at my wits end.  What am I doing wrong?  How can I get through this?  I really need some help.

Thanks.

Please tell me you've already called them.  And, yes, water is very important.  You might also try some broth.  I know it gets a bad rap, but I would try it room temperature or luke warm and it would go right down.  THE LIQUID IS THE MOST IMPORTANT !  Try mixing up your temperatures.  If you have trouble with cold, try room temperature or warm.  BUT CALL THEM.

P.S. They can give you a RX for topical nausea medicine that could help.    Be sure you're not trying to do too much.  And a cold wash cloth on the back of the neck will help with the nausea.  I will keep you in my thoughts.

No.  I haven't called anyone today because I feel like I say the same thing over and over.  I honestly do not know what more they can do for me and I cannot handle another test.  I guess I will just keep trying to sip my water and maybe I will try the broth idea.  Maybe it will go down and be okay.

Thanks.

I do still have some topical phenergan.  Maybe I will try that when I get home.  Thanks for the advice.  I will try them when I get to the house and hopefully it will help.

Thanks.

I know the feelings you are having. This is what I did and it helped alot...I would drink flavored water and add not let it be cold or hot... My protein shakes went from choclate to vanilla and I started sucking on sugar free peppermint disks. That helped th nausea alot. You might need to change your protein from whey to soy...and just relax... sip tha****er and if you have to suck on ice cubes....
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

Kim I am so very sorry.  I wish I knew what to tell you but I don't.  I am so fortunate that I didn't struggle with nausea at all.  I have heard others on the main VSG board talk from time to time about struggling.  The answers I recall seeing said that it dissappears over time.  I really hope you get over this quick.  Hugs - Amy

You may need to consider coming down to see Dr. B in person.  Dehydration is really dangerous.  You must find a way to get in some liquids.

At Camille's (Amy's sister) suggestion I used some of the Sea Bands last week while I was till figuring out my nausea issue (medications) and I think they helped.  Sea Bands are elastic bands with a harde plastic disc that you wear on your wrists.  Read the instructions for where to place them.  I felt they helped as much as the drugs I had for nausea.

I am worried about you!  Take care of yourself!

I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Well I'm in the same boat, however, I treated it by not eating and that seemed to hep the most, however....NOW that I'm eating again, I take even smaller bites and wait like minutes between my bites before I can take another before the nausea sets in.  Sunflower seeds have been my savior.  I'm not able to just run down to my local doc and get a new prescription, so I've been toughing it out and it's gotten better slowly.  i was told this is because of the specific way that my nerves have healed and how they're adjusting t the new pouch situation.

The mornings are the worst for me, and temperature extremes aren't helpful either.  Cream of broccoli and cheese is great for making it go away for lunch but the only way I start my morning is by drinking fresh brewed warm tea.  then it's sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, pistachio nuts, etc, etc, etc...  So try those and lemme know if anything is working for you.

Big Love...

Kim - I am so, so sorry you are having such a rough time.  Nausea is THE WORST!!  I will do anything to avoid barfing so I feel for you.  I wish I had some magical words for you to make it all better.

I know that you already know this, but please try to push those fluids as much as possible.  You can't go without liquids!  I seem to have an easier time with hot liquids than cold but I'm sure you've tried everything.  Have you posted on the VSG board?  Maybe someone there has dealt with this issue and has an idea?

Hang in there and know that I'm thinking of you!
