Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yesterday was my son's birthday and he chose Olive Garden for his dinner. I had grilled chicken and a couple of bites of broccoli off the children's menu. Oh, and a couple of bites of the salad. I felt fine when I went to bed several hours later. I woke up at 3 AM with the most horrible taste in my mouth and I felt like I could throw up. I got up to go to the bathroom and my esophagus was gurgling away. I also noticed that my nightgown was wet from sweat -- something I have not had since surgery. The feelings, and the taste, passed within a few mintues and I went back to sleep. this morning I still feel like I could throw up off and on. Any thoughts?

My thoughts - that is terrible!  I haven't heard of this before.  It sounds like you made really good choices.  Could the chicken have been bad?  Anybody else in your family eat it?  You would think that many hours later your system would've already processed it.  (seems like my system is prette efficient these days due to low volume)

Maybe somebody will come along and post because I would like to hear the answer too.  Did you post on the VSG forum?

Oh, and Happy Birthday to your son!

Hmmmm, sounds like a bit of reflux.  I have noticed I am more reactive to things like MSG and other additives when I eat out.  I have a fondness for dumps and dives and I've really had to be a bit more careful since surgery.

I usually don't eat salad in the evenings-it's another thing that seems to upset the status quo so to speak.

It also sounds like a mini-dump along with the reflux. I waited for 4 months before trying salad. I wonder if that's it?

Nancy,

About four weeks after my surgery, I decided to try some broccoli off a buffet because it looked SOOO good.   I was away from home at a training class...it was a good thing I had a hotel room to myself, because the broccoli absolutely did NOT agree with me.  I had sweats, diarrhea, shakes, and horrible gas.  I barely slept that night in between trips to the bathroom.

Sorry, I know - TMI - but it was a thought.  It could have been the broccoli.   It took me about 6 more weeks to try broccoli again, and it was a lot easier by then.

Hope you feel better.

I don't know if this was the first time you tried veggies, but if I remember correctly Jessica suggested that I wait about 6 weeks post-op before adding vegetables...very likely that the salad or the broccoli caused this. Hope you are feeling better now...

Nancy,  I consider you to be my friend, so i will be "frank"....  I think it's demons.  I think a good dunking in the "holy water", or a visit to the nunnery might just be the ticket....

HOWEVER I could be wrong.... and it might just be the slimie****ting your stomach and mixing with the stomach acid.... but then again....it could still be the demons...

possessed or not, you're still my friend and I love ya.

Sorry you were icky!  My thought is that you had broccoli too early.  That is some tough fibrous stuff to digest.  Baby tummy probably rejected it after it gave up trying to digest it.  Also, you probably had some GERD going on.  I had to go to two Protonix a day to control the acid. Yes, it was prescribed by Walton- didnt do it on my own!  It is getting better finally.

I would stay away from the tough veggies for a while longer to finish healing baby tummy.

It sounded like a mini-dumpto me too. My tummy has been pretty grouchy all day. I barely ate more than a bite at a time today. I was the only one who ate the chicken but it smelled and tasted fine. I also am getting used to the full feeling and do not feel I ate too much. I am going to do just liquids tomorrow.
