My Accountability

All, Thanks for your support.  I have boohooed enough.  Anyway, today, I did 35 minutes of H20 walking at the Center for Healthy Living plus stretching.  The water got a little cold and it's strange not going as fast as I usually do in the water.  I will increase my H2O time tomorrow after watching the Mummy.  My food sucked today.  I had 1 cup egg drop soup, 2 pieces garlic fritter chicken. and 3 pieces sweet sour pork and an egg roll.  This was while I was having lunch with my 87 yo Mom who calls my new SIL that Thai lady because she can't pronounce her name.  Later I had a hamburger with cheese, onions, mustard, pickles, tomato.  Large diet coke.  Dinner was chicken noodle soup.  2 snacks - sugar free fudgecycle and sf popcycle.  Lots and lots of water.  I drink so much water that I have to pee every place I go.

I found out I can probably do some bicycling.  They suggested recumbent but those bikes are so low to the ground that motorists can't see you so my brother, the marathoner is checking out some different types of bikes for me.  He's on the east coast so God only knows what he will recommend.  My trainer at the gym said she would recommend some stretches that can be done on tables so I don't have to get up and down off the floor.  There are also some yoga and Pilates that can be done on the tables too so I have choices.

Thanks again for your support.  donna

Shelly will hopefully chime in here.  She found a recumbent bike that is a semi recumbent so you are not as low to the ground.  I'm techno challenged so I don't know how to put a link in here but I'm sure Shelly (harris2) will do it.  You should check it out.

I can highly recommend the Day 6 bicycle company. Hubby has the *Journey* model. These are bicycles at normal height and very stable (unlike recumbent bikes) and they were designed by an engineer that had back problems. My husband's pain management physician approved him riding this bike. He's had multiple back surgeries and procecures and a 360 degree fusion. He loves his bike! It has helped strengthen his legs and has not caused any back problems at all. As a matter of fact, his pain management physician was planning to order one, as well, at his last visit.

If you spend some time on their website, you will be able to watch videos and get lots of information.

Hubby chose the Journey model which has 7 gears since it makes it SO much easier to face any hills or inclines. He truly loves his bike and enjoys it! He could not even think of riding a regular bike due to his extensive back issues.

If you have any questions, just let me know and I'll let you talk directly with hubby.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Shelly!  I didn't know you guys bought the Day 6!!!  I am sitting here completely green with envy!  Waaahhhh!  That's the one I really wanted but I was too cheap to buy it.  Right now, it's too hot for me to ride anything so I guess I'm a fair weather rider and don't deserve the Day 6 anyway!  Ha!

Hey girl! We did get the Day 6 Journey for hubby, but I was lucky to snag Deb's Trek Sole Ride 300. We love both of the bikes!!!

Hubby's bike has all the advantages of a recumbent, but NONE of the dangers! It's normal height, great control (which recumbents don't have), and it's designed by an engineer that had back issues. It's also great for those with arthritis! (And, one of the greatest ways to battle arthritis is through exercise. It' seems to be the opposite of what we want to do, but healthy exercise approved by your doctor will greatly improve arthritis and many other conditions.) Hubby rides his Day 6 Journey and has had absolutely no bad effects on his back. His legs have strengthened and he loves it! Of course, I love my Trek Sole Ride 300, too!

If we ride now, we are out riding by 7 AM, otherwise it's just TOO HOT! ; )

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

I checked the link and the spec sheet.  The weight limit is 250 lbs for both bikes and I'm 300.  I will call the company tomorrow to see what they recommend.  I also checked at Schegal Bicycles on Broadway and they have some beautiful bikes but no recumbents.  Thanks for the information.

I forgot to add that we purchased hubby's bike directly from the manufacturer. They shipped it to our home. There was some assembly necessary. Hubby would be glad to help you out if any help is needed. The manufacturers did deal with us a bit on the price, more so than any of the local bike shops were willing to do. ; )
Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

That day 6 looks like the bomb.  I have a recumbent stationary bike, that I like, but for a rolling down the street bike they scare the peewaddling out of me.  I've only sat on one once, peddaled twice, stopped and got off!

When the weather cools off we need to form an "old and slow" club of riders.....I was going to ride this morning, but at 10 am there is no way.
