SHOES

I am wanting to start walking so bad, but do not have any walking/running shoes.  Don't really have any good stores here in Fort Smith, except for Foot Locker (which doesn't carry the wide width I need) and Academy, but haven't been there yet.  I tried to buy some cheap tennis shoes at Walmart, but they hurt my feet and feel like they weigh 10 lbs each.  So, the only pair of shoes I have is a pair of run-over dress shoes.  I am tempted to drive in to OKC this weekend just to buy a pair of shoes, but will probably wait till my appt on 8/13.  Does anyone have any suggestions on a good place to get properly fitted for a good walking/running shoe?  Somer, my excercise person (never can remember her correct title) at WeightWise suggested a New Balance store on 15th in Edmond.  Saw Laura last time and she talked of a store on Broadway, but can't remember the name now, or the brand name of the shoe.  (began with an "A")  Have read on the exercise forum that someone suggested a good running shoe, whether walking or running.  Like I said an extra wide width is hard to find.
Thanks for the help, Michael.

Michael,
I am looking in the phone book for you to tell you what I can find and see if they carry the extra wide width.

I think the New Balance store Somer told you abut is probably your best bet.  However, I have used Foot Solutions on Memorial between May and Penn on the south side of the turnpike.  Another option is The Runner on north May Ave.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Linda's Birkenstock on NW 39th carries good shoes. Dillard's also carries good shoes. I love New Balance.  If you come to Edmond, the store is on the corner of 15th and Bryant by Panera Bread.

I got my current pair I'm wearing today from eBay. Never worn New Balance for $15 and never worn Shox for $30.

Good luck to you, and welcome to the board!

I called Elite feet in Edmond and they do carry extra wide width running and walking shoes the price is anywhere from 100.00 to a 150.00.
Fleet Feet in Edmond carry up to 2ee's and their prices are from 95.00 to 120.00 and they can size your feet if you are needing a wider shoe which will also measure your arch...
New Balance in Edmond carries them and the price is from 95.00 to 135.00...
I tried calling other stores they either dont carry the eww or dont know where to get them.
And they stores are open on the weekends...
Good luck to ya

The one on Broadway is called The Runner and they will fit your feet.  A good shoe is necessary to walk for exercise.

Glad to see you got such excellent responses here!

Foot Solutions (I used the one on S Penn but I've been in the one on Memorial) did the computer fitting of the orthotics for me.  There must be something to it, because my two feet are very different from each other and it mapped them both correctly.  (I am skeptical of everything.)

Michael I SWEAR on New Balance shoes, I have two pair now and have worn them exclusively for the last 6 years or so.  I LOVE THEM.  I have wide feet too (I wear an E though) and they have wider ones that fit me just fine.  I buy them at either Khol's or Shoe Carnival....and right now Shoe Carnival is having a buy one pair, get one half off sale (I saw it while ago when i drove by there).  Hope that helps.

Ooh and welcome to the Okie boards.

Thank you all so much for all the advice.  Gee, thanks Pattye for all the trouble of calling around.  I really appreciate that.  Guess I might wait till I come in for my appt on the 13th, cause I have to stop and think it takes around $100 of gas for the round trip.  Besides, my wife was asking me at lunch what we were going to do Saturday for our anniversary (28 years).  Now, before you think it's a guy thing and I didn't remember, I always remember our anniversary, just didn't realize what day of the week it was on when I was thinking about coming in.  Sound good?    Anyway, as usual, I can always count on the people on OH.  Michael
