Even with big stress and sadness, no thoughts of, or focus on food

Friends, this has been such a difficult week. We lost a very good, young friend and have been helping his young widow with many difficult tasks. Hubby and I have literally cried countless tears. However, in looking for something positive in these sad days, I realize that thoughts of turning to food for comfort have not occurred. This is a first.

For everyone that may be having regrets about their surgery, or mourning the loss of food, I can say that it will get incredibly freeing for you, too, not to be bound to the need for food as a friend or comfort. Also, exercise has helped us get through this week in a healthy way and provided a release of anxiety and sadness. I also have a wonderful counselor that I still see regularly and faith and prayer have made all the difference.

My hope and prayer for all of us is to be freed of the dependence on food for anything other than fuel for our bodies and to develop healthy coping mechanisms. Food and eating is not the good friend it pretends to be. Life can be so much more complete without an inordinate focus on food. There's so much life to enjoy ... and food is a poor substitute.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

I am so sorry you have had a bad week.  Losing someone you care about it very difficult.  I think it is a very good thing that you have not felt the urge to comfort yourself through food.  You should be so proud of yourself.  It is usually the difficult and stressful times that would make me migrate to food for comfort and it sounds like you have found healthy alternatives.  You are a dear person and I will pray that you will get through this difficult time and find peace.

I'm reading "Does this Clutter make my Butt Look Fat" and it speaks a lot about our cluttered lifestyles and the similarities to over eating-one of my favorite quotes (and I've only read the forward and part of chapter 1) is "Clutter is like junkfood-fat, sugar and flour are the food equivalent of clutter."

How wonderful it is to be free from the prison that food puts us in.  I was sick of being slave to it and it is refreshing to hear your story of hope that I will be able to deal with tough things ahead without relying on food.

I'll be keeping you and your familly in my thoughts and prayers.  Thank you for being the person that you are to help and comfort others when you're hurting yourself.  You are a very special person and we all appreciate what you bring to this board.
