Starbucks Smoothie Review

270 Calories, 21 grams protien, 28 grams carbs very little fat, 6 grams fiber.
It is just a banana smoothie-tastes nice and fresh cause it's made nice and fresh. Not as good as a piece of steak, but a better nutritional profile than the same size chocolate malt.
I get the same "mouth feel" as the banana with a homemade smoothie using skim milk, pumpkin and whatever flavor I want.....and about the same fiber and not nearly the carbs. For errand running days though, I think it will be a viable alternative for me, although honestly I just toss in a slimfast if I know it's going to be that kind of day.
You could make it with soy, leave off the mocha and add SF vanilla syrup-but honestly, if you leave out the banana it's not going to have that thick feel....so you might as well go home and make a pumpkin one that tastes as good and won't make you dump.
For people that don't dump, it's probably a lot better than a fatty burger or something like eaten on the run, so it's a step in the right direction, but my opinion is you'd be better off with a sugar free non fat latte to stave off starvation and eat later on than to call this smoothie a "meal".

I do experiment with protein drinks at home.. well more like my son does. he is always making me something different to try. i just have a hard time getting them down. but one of my favorites is a banana vanilla smoothie. here is his recipe.
1 cup 1% milk
1 TBLS SF Vanilla syrup
1 large Banana
1 scoop of protien (choc, van, or unflavor)
Ice (sonic's works best)
put first 4 ingred in blender . blend on high til smooth
add ice a little at a time and blend until consistancy you like.
Dennis and I usually share it. if we dont fini**** then we will stick it in the freezer for later and it still tastes ok

Ok, I've mentioned my multiple starbucks a day habit when I lived in Dallas-and I still enjoy a visit on occasion. But, if you truly enjoy the taste of coffee, there is a world of good coffees out there to try. I'm drinking some Jim's Organic Mexican from Akins ground with some cinnamon in it, small dab of honey and goat milk. I figured out that even the most expensive coffee I drink (good Kona from Peet's) is still a lot more economical than a drive thru Starbucks, so I really try to limit my buck's visits.
In fact, and I know that a lot of you cook, but I realized a few years ago that I could buy the finest quality organic meat, etc, for a lot less than eating so so food out. When I lived in Dallas, I would often eat out 3 meals a day for weeks and a lot of it was fast food. It's a wonder I wasn't bigger than I was.
One of the things WLS has done for me is that I truly enjoy the food I do eat. I've struggled a lot with bite size, etc, so mindless eating just doesn't work for me. I have to pay attention, and that's been the best thing I could have done.
In regards to coffee, around our house, one of our favs is to put a small bit of cinnamon and ground cloves into the grounds before brewing, and a little vanilla or almond extract into the pot after it brews...yuuuuummmmm
