Delayed Gratification
I'm more of a work hard, see quick results person. This weight loss journey is teaching me I am NOT the one with much control over the timing! ; )
I have full control over my food choices, full control of my exercise habits, full control of my fluid intake .... but it seems I have NO control over when the scale cooperates and the pounds fall. Sigh.
I wish every single day I really ate right, drank my water, and exercised according to my plan and the rules, that the scale would show daily drops equivalent to my efforts. Well, that's NOT the case.
I have barely exercised at all in the past week, or so, because my shoulders were an issue. I've got that treated but I'm now on a 2 week arm strengthening restriction to keep my shoulders calm. I'm expecting the scales to suddenly reverse and go in the other direction since I'm much more of a couch potato lately (I have ridden my bike using only one arm ..... it is possible, and I've done very slight treadmill walking).
So what happens, I'm losing a pound a day for the past 3 days. And, I'm sure it's from my exercise over the past month to 6 weeks ... not anything I've done this week.
In summary, if you're like me, when exercising don't expect immediate results. My weight always drops, sadly, a few weeks after my strong efforts. Let's not get discouraged and let's keep up exercise ... even when the scales don't move right away! : )
I just may learn delayed gratification is still gratification ... just with patience involved. ; )

I posted about becoming more patient on another thread (question of the day). I really think this is a lesson that most of us need to learn-instant gratification led to our weight problems to begin with, and I also think that's we are so close as an online community, because we really are struggling in the same ways with the same issues.
One of the things I've noticed is my hunger level zooms the day after a hard work out.
I also believe, but have no proof, that the body is going to let go of so much weight at any given time, and no more. When it feels "comfortable" letting some weight go, it does. Nutrition more than calories seems to be a factor in that-if I start eating junk, even if my overall calories don't go up, my body starts holding on for dear life. After I experience this enough hopefully I will quit eating junk.
Yes, my shoulders were smiling by the time I left his office. He uses Marcaine (long acting numbing medication) in with the steroids. It's almost instantaneous relief. But, he said no arm exercising/strength training for 2 weeks. That's the hard part.
For now, I can exercise everything but my arms ... it's really odd to try to do. ; ) It's like being an older, chubby River Dancer. : )
