Insulin Resistance???

Has anyone been diagnosed with this?  I'm currently trying to lose my pre-op weight and it is kind of discouraging because NOTHING is working.  I did some research on the internet about this and read an article that said you basically need to increase your protein intake and cut out as many carbs as possible.  I have done this, the carbs I get are only from vegetables...and it's STILL not working.  I haven't went to meet with the nutritionist yet at WeightWise but I would like to get a jump on the weight loss before my appointment.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You will get a diet from the nutritionist that WILL take the weight off!  They will give you the agressive weight loss plan, probably.  don't sweat it at this point- unless you have to lose a large amount of weight.  When is your appointment with the nutrutionist?
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

I have to lose 24 pounds.  My appointment is Tuesday, July 22.  I heard several people mention the Agressive Diet in the support group meeting last night so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will do the trick!

I am IR also.  After my 3 month diet program I only lost 1 pound.  It's so much harder to loose with IR and it's frustrating.  But I will tell you that I have not had a problem after surgery.

Good luck

Tell Jessica that you have insulin resistance.  She really knows her stuff and will tailor the program to your specific needs.  They WILL get the weight off of you- promise.  You may have to call or go in after your original appointment to get some more tips but they are always happy to talk to you and help.  Don't fret, help is on the way!

Thanks for the words of encouragement.  I attended the support group meeting last night and I was honestly touched to see how nice everyone is.  It is very soul soothing to know that there is such wonderful community of people to turn to with all the questions that seem to randomly come to mind.

Thanks!!

Hey guys!
Sorry to sound like the dum dum here, but what is the aggressive diet plan?  Is that just the medifast meals and such?  I have to lose 13 pounds and am scared I won't be able to do it.  I have done pretty well but still have  my cheat moments on occasion.  I have gone 1 whole week without a pop tho!  WOOHOO!!
Anyway, I am also insulin resistant.  I am going to try Metformin because that does help improve insulin resistance (which in turn helps with weight loss).  I am hearing that some of the weight loss clinics are using metformin...

My husband takes Metformin and his doctor did tell him that it promotes weight loss. So far he has lost 40 lbs, but that is probably more because I put him on a low-carb diet, than anything else. I think it helps if you are insulin restistant, along with your prescribed diet plan.
