OK I AM HAVING SOME PAIN IN MY LEFT SIDE JUST UNDER MY LARGE INCISION. IT ONLY HURTS WHEN I AM STANDING. NO PAIN WHILE I AM LAYING DOWN OR SITTING. EVEN WHEN I SLEEP AND FLOP AROUND NO PAIN. COULD I HAVE OVERDONE IT IN THE EXERCISE DEPT YESTERDAY? I WORKED OUT MY ARMS BUT I GUESS IT COULD HAVE PULLED ON MY STOMACH A LITTLE AND I DIDN'T REALIZE IT. ALSO I HAVE A KNOT AT MY INCISION. IS THIS NORMAL OR DO I HAVE A PROBLEM?

That one seems to be the hardest one to heal-I think there are actually muscles in there somewhere they have to cut through.  For me, it took a good six months (I have a port remember) to get things situated so that muscles worked without pulling on anything.  I rarely have a problem now.

As far as the knot on the incision, that is normal, I had those and they have gone away. Not sure about the pain thing, but it does seem common, and for the most people I hear that it goes away.  -Anna

I had "feelings" there off and on until about 6 weeks out.  Dr. B said it was normal.  Just stuff inside still healing.  Mine felt more like something burning.  It would go away and then reappear out of the blue sometimes.  If you're really concerned, call the nurse/doctor and talk to them.  Bet it's just part of the process though.

They made a big point to tell me that I may have left side pain for a while because that is where they do alot of their work while you're in surgery.  If I walk for a long time or do a work out...that is where I notice it and you and I are about the same amount of time post op.

Girlfriend, I'm surprised you haven't heard about this from me by now. That pain is from scar tissue forming. All the manipulation of the surgery was done at that site, as well as that is where the staple gun went in. That pain will come ago for a few weeks. Not to worry unless you run a fever, or the site looks infected, or you can't keep food or liquids down. I have heard people complain about the little knots as well. I am pretty sure that is common, but if it gets worse give Dr. Walton a call.

I had exactly the same thing show up at about the same time as you.  It came on suddenly and was a sharp.burning pain at that incision where they do all their main business.  I had been pretty much pain free up to that point so I was freaked out.  I called Dr. Walton.  He assured me it was normal and would pass over the next couple of weeks.  He said it was probable that he got a nerve trapped by one of the sutures and it would go away as the suture dissolved.  Sure enough about 10 days later it went away as quickly at it showed up.  So, bottom line- normal.
