Anyone know a good jeweler in OKC area?
I guess you can consider this a wow moment - my rings are falling off my fingers! Here is my problem -- the wedding ring set I wear is my mother's. She left it to me in her will. the engagement ring is 62 years old! Needless to say, the diamond is very expensive. When I first started wearing it I tried to have it sized but the jeweler in NY that my mom always used said because of the setting it could not be sized smaller because it would weaken the setting of the diamonds on the side. What he did was put 2 balls of gold inside the ring. That worked great until now. I need to find a good jeweler who will 1) take the diamond out and give it to me to be reset in front of me (I promised my mom and dad I would never leave the diamond with anyone and her jeweler always did this) and 2) work with me to redo the setting and size the insert while maintaining the design as much as possible. Obviously the ring means so much to me so I don't want to change the look of it anymore than I have to.
I don't have a clue, but only a lil advice...WAIT until you are at goal or have maintained at a steady weight for a bit. I went all gung-ho and resized mine 4 times. The gold gets weaker with each one, so I wouldn't want you to jeopardize your beautiful ring for anything. Until then, can you get a simple sizer put onto it??
Your weight loss has only just begun. I would wait until much closer to goal to resize your precious heirloom. Just go get a thin gold band to wear until that time. My inclination would be to go with Mitchner Farrand or BC Clark. Those guys have all been around a long time. If they were screwing folks we would know and they would go out of business.

Nancy Gene, I know two jewelers personally, Jim Clark of B.C. Clark's and Katheryn Brockhaus at Brockhaus Jewelers in Norman. Either one of those I would trust with my jewelry -- and the thing about staying with your diamond -- I don't care how much I trust them, I would, too. Many years ago a very reputable jeweler in Oklahoma City exchanged my mom's 5 carat flawless diamond for a visibly flawed stone ------ Stand your ground on that one !!!
I know good ones in other areas, but I'm filing this for future information in my saved folder. I have the same problem. Until I hit goal and maintain, I'm wearing a cheap cz set until I get my originals resized, In 23 years, they've been repronged 3 times. They were bought in Pampa, Texas so Zales had been taking care of me. Then I found a great jeweler in Enid who's very reasonable.
"Jewelry is the gift to give..." love those BC Clark's commercials!
