Anyone heard about this for hair loss?

One of my nurses had RNY 3 years ago. When I was talking to her about it when I started looking into it she told me her hair loss improved dramatically when she started taking something, but I could not remember what she told me it was. Since people have asked about what to do about hair loss, I called her today to ask her and she told me it was lycoprene and she swears by it. I looked it up and could find nowhere where it helped with hair loss and even found one site that said it is fat soluble and should not be taken by people who have had a reduction in the size of their stomach. She has done really well and I never would have guessed she had RNY had she not brought it up one day. Just wondered if anyone else has ever heard of this.

I haven't heard of that either -- the only thing I've heard is to be sure and keep your protein level up -- but I don't know how much you're supposed to get in every day.  I guess I need to get my info out and see if it says somewhere.  take care, Lynette

I don't know about lycopene, but I do know about Biotin. My hairdresser told me that I can't take too much of it , and that it's perfectly safe. I bought some at Wal-Mart vitamin section, and I've never had handfuls of hair at a time like a friend of mine did. I notice in the hairbrush and sink.

I've never heard of lycoprene.  I would call Jessica and see what she has to say.  I am taking 5000mcg of Biotin daily.  I have also started using Nioxin shampoo and conditioner.  I have no idea if any of it will help but it was worth the bucks to try.  I really, really don't want to have to resort to a wig.  I don't have enough hair to lose ANY of it.  If I lose hair I will have to get a wig.

Let us know what Jessica says.

I just googled lycoprene.  It is the substance that gives tomatoes and watermelon their red hue.  There were several mentions about studies that were looking at using lycoprene to treat oral cancers.  And, obviously there were the hits about lycoprend and prostate health.  Hmm, don't know about the hair thing.  You might ask as a good healthfood store.
