Question about straws

I know WW recommends no straws immediately after surgery, but at what point is it okay to reintroduce them? I am going back to work tomorrow and I think it will make my liquid drinking easier at work.

I started using a straw pretty much after surgery, I just found it easier to get all my water in that way.....and it helped me to take small amounts, rather than taking a big gulb by mistake out of the bottle.....

I started using a straw right away, too, but with my surgeon's and dietician's approval after speaking with them. For some reason, when I drank without a straw, I swallowed air no matter how hard I tried not to do so. It left me burping, gurgling, and feeling unsettled in my stomach. Once I got the OK to use straws, I was fine. I didn't swallow any air and the suction required to get fluids was so small, it didn't bother anything at all. I know that my situation with swallowing air was just reverse of most ... most people swallow more air *with* a straw. Not me.

Just call and make sure it's OK for you to use a straw.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly
