RIP Bitty

Bitty, my ancient rescue dog, is gone now.  She stopped eating and it was clear she was ready to go find her real momma who died several years ago, so I put her down this morning.  It was peaceful and she was ready.

Sometimes cir****tances put really nice old dogs in bad situations.  If you have the chance, offer your home up to one of this old souls.  They don't ask much and they are very grateful.

Debra, I am so sorry for the loss of your baby girl.  I have always taken in rescue animals, and even tho some are only with us a short time before they pass, their time with us has enriched our lives soooo much.  The best pets we have ever had were ones that were abused and cast away by cruel, uncaring schmucks.  I agree, anyone who is graced with the opportunity to take in a rescue, DO IT!   You WON'T regret it!

Also, consider special needs dogs.

My Greta has a bad hip-she's in no pain but will always limp and isn't too active-although she can take a nice walk around the block and enjoys it very much.  She and I recovered from surgery together-me in a wheelchair, her resting under the wheelchair.

Dottie, *****cently passed, had a titanium eye and a titanium knee-she was a bionic dog.  Again, she wasn't an agility prospect, but a loving pet.

Lily is deaf.  Training is a bit difficult, but not impossible, but she will sit in a lap and cuddle all day. (but no agility for her....)

Cody gets carsick-so he's a stay at home kind of guy. (Which is sad because I bought him for agility-it's a no go).

Oliver was deathly ill when I got him-and he's turned into a vibrant, healthy young dog and is my new (and only) agiity prospect.

Prissy is just terminally spoiled, smart, but I wouldn't put her up on a 6 foot teeter (although she'd go).

The animal shelter on SW 29th is just full of dogs-and they do preadopts on their strays-so if you want a smaller dog, go look in the "found" section too.  You can put "dibs" on a dog.

Remember, match your dog to your lifestyle, not your ego. A dauschund is probably going to be able to keep up with most of us (there is one in my neighborhood who jogs with his owner).

Also, don't forget about other types of animals...we had a 3-legged cat named Wally, who was the fastest lil turd around.  In addition, we have rescused hamsters, mice, guinea pigs, rats, even hermit crabs, lol

I'm sorry.  I know even though it was peaceful and she was ready, you probably miss her terribly.

I'm sorry your baby went to doggie heaven.  That is really hard to deal with.  I so admire your compassion and willingness to help rescues.  So glad there are people like you around!

Deb,  Sorry to hear about your Bitty.  My Maggie Mae was a recue from the SW 29th animal shelter!  Her momma ( wire haired terrier) was pregnant with mostly shar-pei mix puppies.  My Maggie is the best behaved dog ever!!  She's spoiled too.  A volunteer was keeping the mom and pups at her home and she had 10 dogs herself all special needs.  You can see my beautiful Maggie on my profile pics.  Hugs to you about Bitty...even though your head understands your heart aches.

Deb, so sorry about your Bitty...I know it's difficult to go through the loss of a pet. I love aminals, especially dogs, and we have three (would have more if I had room) -Two of them are rescue dogs, Heidi and Chase, and they are great dogs, and one is just a spoiled brat, Chelsea. Nearly three years ago we had another dog that was a rescue, a mix german shepherd and lab, and he was the most wonderful dog I have ever had. His name was Toby, he developed epilepsy and was too advanced for the vet to put him on meds...we had to put him down and to this day it still breaks my heart. My husband and I still can't talk about him without tearing up. - I think my Toby was an angel, but that's just the silly me talking, maybe...... God bless you for caring about animals so much!- Anna

Anna, all of our four legged babies are angels sent to teach one lesson or another! Deb, I am so sorry about your baby!  It is heart wrenching to have to put one down.  Both of my babies are resucues from the shelter on 29th.  They are both geriatric and I dread the day I have to make that decision for one of them.  Thankfully both are healthy and active! You will "find" a new baby soon I am certain!  Dogs and cats know who is the sap of the neighborhood and show up for dinner!  It must be some sort of animal email system! Denise
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

I really am sending up prayers for "NO MORE TINY ONE's"........but I'm afraid to say it too loud-last time I did that I was inundated.  But last time I said it, this time I'm just asking-maybe that works better.
