Question
One more thought .... Have you tried Cat59's fat free refried beans recipe? It's heavenly and goes down and sits well with me. It would fit right in with your diet stage now. Just take
1 - 16oz. can fat free refried beans
1 - 16 oz. can of drained pinto beans (mash them up)
1/2 cup low fat or fat free shredded cheese
a little salsa to taste
I mix this in a sauce pan and warm it up and make sure the cheese melts. Then pour everything into a baking dish and add a little more shredded cheese to melt on the top. Put in the oven just long enough to melt the cheese on top and Enjoy!
This is really good for protein and has always sat well in my stomach. Easy to eat and get down, too. No chewing necessary since you mash the drained pinto beans before you add them.
No need to PM - eating after a stricture/ulcer is basically just a step backwards - I was diagnosed first at about 3-4 weeks out (fairly normal timeline from what I hear) and had my 1st EGD - back peddled to full liquids to soft proteins for almost 2 months and an additional 2 EGD's. I was put on prevacid & carafate from the 1st EGD. Dr B stated that he has had a few patients he had to do multiple EGD's on - sometimes up to 5-7 depending on health and other issues. The hardest part was staying hydrated - during the same period was really really hot in OK - Aug & Sept - and ended up doing IV's every few days to ensure I stayed hydrated. Luckily they also pumped me full of stuff while I was in doing that to keep my nausea down (can't remember the name - the chemo stuff). Anyway, after my gastric bleed last September, I basically was in the hospital for 4 days on full liquids. When I came out I was so protein depleted that I literally had to pound protein for a full week - constantly it seemed! I had lost about 17lbs due to the bleed so I had to gain all of that back basically. That was an ISSUE for me! They did 2 EGD's while I was in the hospital - one in the ER and the 2nd a couple days later to ensure things were healing properly. Not fun but good drugs. Hang in there! I would definitely keep in close contact with your dietitian to ensure that things are going the way they want them to. I now have glucose issues - unable to stabilize and going high and low constantly. But I have decided to start journaling to see what I can correct to stabilize and then go see our own dietitians to ensure I can do it long-term. Let me know what else I can do to help. EDIT: Also - about the sugar alcohol - I would try to keep those really low for a while. They do horrible things to my pouch - I know I did it yesterday! Lots of gas, rumbling and diarrhea in the long run!! Anything over about 10g per serving and you could get some gastric distress. You don't need that right now......

Heather, Have you tried making your own protein shakes? I have experimented with this and found that I like them much better than the ready to drink ones. Go to www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com .Search through her entire site and I promise you will find something that you will like. She has some awesome protein homemade ice cream recipes. They are basically a protein shake placed into an electri**** cream maker. Best of Luck.
