I live 3 miles from work but on S. Western...a pretty busy street.  I am thinking of getting a Vespa or Moped or electric scooter.  Deb C....You seem to know a lot about motorcycles...what about scooters.  I am hesitant to ride my bicycle on Western as there are no bike lanes and I don't want to get all sweaty riding!!  There are all different kinds of scooters...good for the environment and the pocketbook...I really want one that will at least go 40 miles an hour so I won't get run over for going 20!!!  Do you have any thoughts in this area???  And yes, I would take a rider safety class!!!

Just for the sake of telling you... a Vespa is a sexy machine, but not cheap.  You can also do a google search for a moped called the "sach madass"  those are awesome and come with a 50cc motor or a 125cc motor.  if you don't mind paying a little extra just get the 125 and never worry about traffic ever again.  Check ebay for some for sale too...often you can call a local scooter guy and get one on order, they are extremely popular becasue they manuver easily and aren't heavy, yet make great power and have AWESOME gas mileage. Slay a woman....oh, no, no ,no....there are other things that rhyme with slay that I prefer...wink, wink..ok enough of my mischief.... LOL T.

I posted a picture of the cutest Vespa with a side car of all things...on my profile pics because I can never post pics in my messages!   I appreciate your advice...I am in the fact collecting stage of this right now.  I am a little frightened of motorcycles but I think I could handle a scooter. I definately think it's a sexy machine!  lol  My 17 year old daughter is threatening to run away if I drive this around town!  DRAMA QUEEN!  You're so funny! I'm glad you didn't slay me!

Diana - I think that sounds like a blast!  And what a money-saver!  I drive the Broadway Extension so I'm not brave enough to try it but it sure would be a blast to have on the weekends!

I used to drive from South OKC on I-35 and across the Broadway Extension....every day was a near death experience!  I was rear-ended once...not badly thank goodness!!!  It made the most awful impact sound but barely scratched my bumper...good bumper on that Toyota Camry!  Hey, if you can go grab the picture of the Vespa on my profile and post it on here...would you...I can't do it for some reason....anyone....thanks.

Thanks!  You are awesome!  I really think my husband has a firewall I can't get around as I can never post pics on my messages.  When he gets back home I am going to make him fix it so I can post a dang picture!!  Don't feel sorry for him...he loves to teach me technical stuff and watch as my eyes glaze over and my brain turns to mush!!!

OMG!  Buy it!  That is SO stinkin' cute!  Your daughter will get over it.  And, yes, I would pay to take a spin on it. FYI - I can't post pics on my posts either.  Not even at work so it may not be a firewall deal.  I've asked a couple of people for help so I'll let you know if I figure it out.

Ok, My name is Deb.  I like to ride things....LOL.  I want a scooter too.

I would get a 125 CC and that will take care of all your in town needs.  A 50CC would do it, but the 125 is going to give you the accleration you need to get out on Western-a 50 is going to be sluggish.  A 250 will give you a short hop on the highway.  The thing that unnerves me about riding a bicycle on the street is I have no ability to accelerate to get out of the way-I feel like a target.

Suzuki makes a cruiser style bike that is 250 CC-it looks like a motorcycle, not a scooter and it is waaaaaay cool.  I looked at electic scoots cause I thought that was way cool, but they are pretty pricey and they don't have the acceleration.

You can find old 70cc street bikes ever so often that are cool too-but then you have to deal with scraping up parts, etc-I'm not mechanically inclined so I want something I can take to any shop for service.

I've also seen highway capable scoots-with the step through style-they are pretty pricey too.

If cost is the factor-I'd go with a small street bike, if style is a factor, a scoot and a matching helmet with an adorable "trunk" on the back.

Let me know if you want to go shopping.  I have no shame about going into a cycle shop and talking about girlie aspects too-the color, what helmet would look best, etc.  Heck, I asked a guy at home depot which color of wrecking bar would look better, blue or red......

Deb you are so funny!!!  You would just die if you knew what this person wants for this Vespa with the sidecar.  But I do SO love it!  It's pretty old too....1980 model.  I am definately a dork.  I have seen some super cute pink scooters too!!!  I am not quite at the point of the process to go shopping but if I decide to do this I will definately let you know and we can go check them scoots out!  lol
