Strained egg drop soup from PF Changs

I heard from several people that they strained egg drop soup during the liquid stage.  I asked Julia this morning if that seemed okay to her and she said yes.  I just got home with it and it is thicker than I thought.  I ate 4 or 5 teaspoon fulls and then put it in the fridge because I got nervous about it.  It is milky looking.  Do you think I am okay with this?  It tastes so heavenly but I don't want to risk anything.  Randy strained it like 3 times.  Did anyone do egg drop soup and is this normal or does PF Changs just make theirs thicker than most?  I've never even had it before now.

I do egg drop soup all the time, but I've never had it from PF Changs so I can't speak on that one.  I am sure it's ok if it doesn't smell bad.  That's just my 2 pesos on that one.

If I were you I would just thin it out with more broth or water and then try it.  It might be easier to handle if it is thinner. Good luck, Kim

I've never had PF Changs egg drop soup, but egg drop soup without the egg drops was divine. However, we're allowed to start full liquids the day after we go home so I didn't worry about it specifically. I don't know what would make it milky looking ... usually it's a clear yellow base. Sorry I'm no help.

Also, I did have that nagging worry in my head that I would magically spring a leak ... especially after reading the girl's story on the VSG board that you mentioned. But, every time I worried excessively, I'd go open the document from Cornell University that is the diet they have their VSG patients follow. (It's a downloadable pdf document from their website.) Every time I read that, I was comforted that I was being as cautious as possible! ; ) They have a crazy fast food progression. Of course, I did not follow it ... nor would I ever recommend it to anyone ... but I thought if their patients are doing fine on their progression that I was probably more than safe on mine and following my surgeon's instructions. Just follow your rules and try not to worry. You're doing great!

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Maybe milky looking is not the right description.  It was just thicker in color than the clear chicken broth I was drinking.  It is not like cream of chicken or anything but certainly not a perfectly clear broth.

You did get the official okey-dokey from Dr. B's nurse so you should be ok.  And you are 9 days out.  There is nothing solid or seedy about that soup.  You're probably ok.  Did you post on the VSG board?

I hope you "go to town" on that stuff.  I hope it doesn't upset you but hey it might be worth the taste! I'm so happy you're experimenting.  I know you heard how my experiment went...but hey men think that turkey are just big chickens...lol T.

Thank goodness I didn't have your reaction.  My tummy loved it.  But I only have a few teaspoons.  I am thinking of going back for seconds though!!!

I strained egg drop soup more than once during liquids.  Didn't do Changs, but I've had it before and it was not any different consistency than any of the ones I had.  I say enjoy!
