Hello again!
Thank you, again, to those that responded to my post a few weeks ago researching OK, specifically Weatherford. Well, it is a green light for us! As of July 14, my DH is an official member of the OK population, with me and our kids to follow shortly (being optimistic here, as we will go up after the house here in TX sells).
I look forward to interacting with you all!!!
Janice
Thank you SO much, Shelly! I know we are apprehensive about the move, but I am sure it is just because we are not familiar with the area. We felt the same way when we were transferred to Houston 5 years ago as well, and have grown to love it here. I am sure we will adore OK just as much as we do TX!
I am looking forward to meeting a new batch of folks, seeing new sights, and having new experiences, esp since I am a city girl, and this move is taking us to a smaller place. It is hubby's dream job, and he actually grew up in a small town, so he is as happy as a clam.
Thank you again for the kind words and well wishes!
Have you settled on living in Weatherford or are you looking somewhere else? I'm sure you will love it in Ok, once you get settled....It beats the daylights out of Houstons traffic!! My daughter used to live in League City and to get across Houston was a nighmare!! Rush hour 24/7! We look forward to you interacting with us also....in spite of the college issues! I personally sent all my money to OSU, so I am determined to be loyal, though my son's in law are all OU....It can make for alot of fun! Sometimes!! lol Welcome to OK! Sherry
Well, my husband's office is in Weatherford, and it appears to be the larger of the towns in the area. Due to his job, we have to live within a 45 minute drive time, regardless of weather, so we figure that we will have to be within a 20 mile radius of Weatherford or so. Do you know of any areas around there that are good for families and kids???
I am SOOOO not going to miss Houston's traffic!!! It takes 20 minutes just to get to the highway now, and don't even talk about the drive time once you get on it! lol
Thank you so much for the warm welcome!!!
The larger of the cities around there is Weatherford and probably will have the best school system. Elk City and Clinton are pretty nice but keep in mind the surrounding cities are extremely small compared to Houston. Smaller school systems are often good. Kids have a better chance to stand out if they are good at sports, but I'd stick with Weatherford. Oklahoma is very sports oriented. Hinton has a great park to go spend the day with the family...It's called Red Rock Canyon...again it's an Okie version of a canyon. I spent many many weekends there climbing and swimming! We always had picnics.
There is a good golf course at Ft. Cobb. There is also a lake where our family spent summers.
You know, the way it works is that you will be driving along and see exactly what you want....To me, school systems are always better when parents are involved...Google Clinton and Elk City...most all the other surrounding cities are really small...but if you want small then there are plenty of those...Good luck Sherry
