What if this doesn't work for me?  I got the band 2 years ago and didn't lose weight with it.  Now I have the RNY....still on fluids and yes I feel I have lost a great amount of weight.  Just a week and a half out and I have lost 11 pounds.  BUT,  I feel like i'm starving!!   Am I going to be able to battle this head hunger?  I need to get my head back in the right place.  Someone please tell me that when I start eating regular foods that I am going to feel restriction....someone please tell me that I will feel satisfied with the amount of food I'm eating...someone please tell me that I am not going to screw this up again....someone please tell me that I have a chance.  I am scared to death that once I start eating real food that I am going to still want more...that the satisfaction won't be there.....ahhh... I'm also having nightmares that  I am eating everything under the sun and still not feeling full.  It's making me crazy....what did you feel like when you started mushies....I need some support..

I'm still pre-op but  you are going to work this tool and be so proud of yourself and your accomplishments.  I don't think you'll have to worry about not feeling restriction when you get to the mushies...I don't know how many people have said that they had two bites of scrambled eggs and were full!  I think you'll get a handle on the head hunger especially after you can chew again!

I am not there or anywhere yet as far as this is concerned...BUT I do read panic when I read it.....It's ok to feel this way and to have these feelings because these are also HEAD feelings... Try to calm down a bit and realize that you CANT eat much....You really AREN'T starving. You WILL be satisfied with a small amount as the reality is that you CANT eat more than a small amount.  You have to look at the positives...You have to focus on your goal. You have to realize you are the only one who can take control of these HEAD feelings and HEAD hunger. Do something to stay busy somehow...write, walk, do something! Don't focus on what you can't have and try to get creative with what you can have.....YOU CAN DO THIS!!! The reason I know this and havn't yet had it done, is because I read it on here every day!! All these people can't be wrong!! Right??? We are praying for you!!   Sherry

Ellabear,  this will work for you.  Your new pouch will only hold so much.  when  you start the mushies you will not tolerate much at a time.  If you overeat you will feel bad, at least I feel bad when I overeat.  I am 12 weeks post op and I have had to learn that I can only eat very small portions.  I was told to measure my food in the beginning and I did.  However one or two bites to many would make me feel awful and have dry heaves (wishing I could throw up to stop feeling bad). But that hasn't happened in a while, so I guess I am getting the hang of it.  I still have days when I want to eat all that I see, but if I know it will make me sick I am able to say no.  Or sometimes I will just have one bite and that will satisfy my desire for whatever it is.  Hope this helps.  You will be able to overcome that head hunger.  If I can, you can too.  Dionne

Hey girl...  I'm here and we all are to give you all the support you need.  You will be able to handle this head hunger.  It is hard at first and it does feel like it's going to overtake you, but the first time you overeat, you will realize, it won't overtake you at all.  You aren't going to screw this up girl.  You were given this chance and you're going to do great with it!  Believe me, you are going to feel restriction... I still do and I am almost 4 years out.  I send you lots of hugs and lots of positive energy and support... PM anytime you need to rant or just feel like you need a shoulder.

One of my vulcan mind games for head hunger is to measure out the correct portion and tell myself, if I want more, I can have it.  Sometimes I DO want more, and I have a little more, but usually not much.  Part of the head thing is your mind is saying NO WAY I can be truly satisfied with that small amount....so tell yourself to wait five minutes-if you are hungry, eat more, if you are not, don't.  It takes awhile for your head to catch up to your body, so you have to give your head a little room to run till it catches up.

Breathe !  Breathe !  Take it slow.  Sip, sip, sip.  You will feel full, even on liquids.  Your mind and your body will panic -- it does think it's starving.  And boy will you feel restriction when you start eating real food.  Just be sure that you take small amounts SLOWLY and let your mind realize when it feels the restriction.  You can do this !!!  Just follow the rules.  Right now you have to get in AT LEAST 64 ounces of fluids.  Then when you can add your soft things you will be relieved and much more satisfied.  One thing that helped me at first was to be sure and have PROTEIN !!!  Chicken broth, beef broth -- even a little of a protein shake.  It's the protein that satisfies your brain and your hunger.  BREATHE !! Panicking is not allowed.  There are too many people on this website to look out for you.  Glad you wrote.  Lynette

Shauna, Relax you can do this. When the head hunger hits you have to find something new to do with your hands brain and mouth. You will be suprised how little food will fill you up. You also just have to take one day at a time. Somedays you just have to take one second at a time.Find something to distract you and keep your mind off of it. It's gonna all work out.

Thanks to all of you!  You have helped more than you know.  I am doing soooo much better this evening.  SO I had a little flip out...I'm sure it won't be the first time but thanks for all the support.  I know I can do this....it's just not the most promising after 1 failed wls....leaves ya a little doubtful and anxious... I know that once I am able to start eating foods I will feel better about what this surgery is going to do for me.  Thanks again.

Also know that restriction isn't  what you'll feel. It's a new kind of full, actually and hard to describe. In the beginning very small amounts usually are enough. You are NOT going to fail this one. Use your tool and follow your nuts' advice, and you'll be fine! ((hugs))
