Here's a LINK (opens a pdf document) to the recently released article addressing nutritional guidelines recommended following weight loss surgery. This is supposed to address the controversy around the poor quality of protein found in protein *bullets* or vials of gelatin protein.

I haven't read the article yet, but will now!

Enjoy! Knowledge is POWER!

Here's the long version of the link in case the other has problems:

Wow, that was long-but it did say that collegen was not a good protien source because it was lacking in several key amino acids.

Yep, and that's the type of protein that's in the bullets/protein vials.

Also, the source of the collagen turned my stomach when I looked that up. It's from the protein of connective tissue in animals ... procured by boiling the bones, skins and hides of pigs and cows. Here's a link to the Jell-O facts

I wonder if this is why the protein bullets gag me!  lol   I think they taste nasty and they smell nasty!!!  Our docs have always told us to EAT our protein.  Protein first, protein first...that is what we always hear!  I am guessing they have read research such as this already!

There are excellent protein supplements ... just not the bullets. The whey protein isolate supplements are the best nutritionally. They also recommended at least 70 gms. of protein daily ... and that's not easy to get in that much with food for me ... no room in the inn! Even if I eat nothing but meat, I still fall short of my goal. So, supplements are making the difference for me.

Once I found out what Jell-O came from, it ruined it for me forever! ; )

Anybody remember the last chance protien diet in the 70's....that stuff was truly nasty.

I think there are some whey bullets out there-I bought some in Texas once.....but every time I've done a 40 gram drink or bullet I get the trots....so MY body does not absorb that much at once.   I make Isopure with just one scoop instead of two-thats arond 100 calories and 20 grams of protein-or I will open a 40 gram bottle and drin half and then save the other half for later.

In the bandster community, protien supplements are always a big issue-but I have experimented and even when I was unfilled, gettig in my protein with food alone isn't feasible and eating meat and eggs ONLY wouldn't last very long for me-it's just not sustainable.  It's summer, and I need my tamaters.
