Sharing a Pep Talk with Myself with YOU!

Today is fill day, and I always review what I did right and wrong before I go to the doctor so that I can tell her.  One of the things that I have working against me right now is sick, elderly relatives and I don't mean that in a selfish way, or I'm trying not to.  But, this extended period of stress can either take my focus off my own health, or I can use this time to learn to manage my health during times of family crisis.  I think it's a good lesson to learn, because face it, there is always something...work, family, angst.

It's kind of like training a horse to go over a stream-some of them are really afraid of it, but reptition and practice will work wonders.  So, right now, I'm getting a lot of reptition and practice.

The takeaway from this is not as peppy as the subject line indicated.  It's about learning to keep on going when the enthusiasm is just not there.  Attention to vitamins, water, and exercise will make sure you are in good shape when the enhusiasm returns.

One of the phrases that makes me cringe is "that's just the way it is".....but that phrase can be used for good......"I'm going to eat healthy, drink my water and exercise cause that's just the way it is...."

My Grandma came to live with me 2 yrs ago and died a year later. It was the most stressful time I have ever had. She was up all night....I was up all night. Though it was the hardest time of my life, as I look back on it...it was the best time too....I totally lost myself during my 40 yrs of marriage and again caring for Grandma.... It is not selfish to worry about your own health...I can say that now, but not during the process. I feel for you and will really put you on my big Prayer list as I know how hard it is!     Sherry

Thanks again Deb for your words of wisdom. I hope the health of your parents improves quickly. I hope you remember to always take care of yourself during this time of stress. It's really hard when the roles reverse and we become the caregiver for our aging parents. I will definitely be keeping both you and your family in my prayers.
Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Thank you both.  The whole role reversal thing is a mind bender because it's like the 900 pound gorilla in the room-it isn't supposed to be there and you have to be tactful at a time when your elders AND you are ultra sensitive.

BUT, learning to deal with stress doesn't mean there isn't going to be stress, it's just that you learn better ways to deal with it.  So, practice I must.
