what do i need to take to hospital?
ok my date is monday june 23 and i am very excited but also very nervous. i had my pre-op this morning and dr. broussard gave me a big hug and told me he would see monday. but now i don't know what all i need to take to hospital with me that day. do i take my own pj's or do you wear a hospital gown the whole time? my own toothbrush and anything else? also i lost 37lbs when i only had to lose 33lbs. woo hoo!!! any help you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated and also you guys have been great during this whole experience so thank you!!!
As soon as you feel like it you can change in to your own PJ's or comfy clothing. Or if you want to keep the hosp gown on that is fine too. I took my own blanket and pillow. We have tootbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, soap and all that good stuff. You basically just need to bring something comfortable to go home in. Also bring your lap top because we have WI-FI. There are also free movies on demand. You wont be there long enough to get bored. Congratulations on the weight loss and good luck on your journey, Rita
I don't know about you, but I like to be over-prepared and brought much more than I actually needed. You'll have an i.v. in your arm, so it's easy to wear hospital p.j.s (which I did), but I know some people actually bring their own. maybe a robe would be good because they do want you up and walking the halls. they have movies on demand to entertain you as well as wifi if you want to bring a laptop. I brought a book but was much too groggy and tired to read it. But yes, definitely bring a tooth brush and comfy clothes to go home in. I know most people don't have this problem, but I wore a favorite shirt to go home in and I bled on it when one of my adhesive strips got rubbed off while I was dressing. Just something to keep in mind! Good luck to you! And congratulations to you for all of your pre-op weight loss! Way to go! Diana
Um, I was gonna post here but Rita already said all the good stuff! I have nothing more to add! But I would definitely take a change of comfy clothes. Who wants to wear that butt-air-conditioned hospital gown? No thanks! And I brought my own pillow. They will provide you some slipper socks so you'll be good there.
Good luck on Monday and I'll know you'll do great! You're in very capable hands! Please have someone post so we'll know how you're doing! Maybe Rita might do it for us?
Please ask any questions you might have! We're all full of answers! LOL!
I took my makeup. :) lol I just don't like to be without it. I know it's stupid. I didn't do it the day of surgery, but you can darn sure bet that first thing the next day...Liz had on her makeup!!!
I also took some comfy clothes to hang out in the hospital in. I changed the first time I got out of bed, which was NOT long after I got out of recovery. In fact...I was a bit groggy and don't even remember changing. :) I just know I did!!! The socks were great. They have little grips on them so you don't fall, which is an incredibly great thing. :)
And OH YES...the chapstick or lipgloss will save your life!!! I used it all the time. :)
Good luck...I konw you'll do smashingly!!! ;)
HUGS!
Liz

i don't think i'm going to mess with my makeup too much. i don't think i'm going to care about what i look like on the ride home to big mac...that's mcalester..hahaha!! thanks for the info about the chapstick and lipgloss cause i wouldn't have thought of that stuff. i was just worried about my pj's and bad breath!!
Most people's dermabond is fine. The nurses were quite suprised to see that mine had rubbed off on two incisions when I put on my bra. If ya knew me well, you would understand that whatever weird stuff happens, it usually happens to me.
It probably happened just because I had my favorite t-shirt on. Oh well, that shirt is too big for me now anyways, which is a great thing!
