Amy, it depends on what they find on the heart cath. The cath should go smoothly and if it's just a straight cath without any other procedures, you should recover quickly and be OK for surgery by your surgery date. If they find something, that will need to be addressed first before your VSG. If they do more than just the cath, it will be up to your cardiologist and your surgeon to decide when to do your VSG.
You will probably not remember most of the procedure since they usually use a drug with an amnesic effect during the procedure. I used to moonlight in the cath lab at University and worked in cardiology research at OUHSC. My husband goes to Dr. Schmidt and the Mercy Heart Hospital is an excellent place to be.
I will surely be keeping you in my prayers for your procedure and a really good outcome.

Oklahoma Heat Hospital and Mercy Heart Hospital are one in the same. It is a great hospital!! I have been there many times and speak from experience! However...the ER head Dr. Dr. Quack...not his real name but close...He sucks!!! He sends every patient out of there with antiacids and it's just gas.....I have had to fight him on being admitted twice only to have blockages twice!! The drugs are great!! The nurses are wonderful and you are in and out before you know it....or even if you have to stay....it's usually only one night.
