will an angiogram delay my surgery?

You guys will not even beleive this.  I went for a stress test Friday and got a call today that it is abnormal and has changed since my stress test a couple of years ago.  They are doing an angiogram on Wednesday at the Mercy Heart Hospital. It is really weird because Dr. B. didn't require me to get one.  I just had a funny feeling in my chest  last weekend and thought maybe I should do it anyway and low and behold it shows possible blockage.  Crap.  I was hoping to get this surgery to prevent this stuff.  Am I too late?  If I end up with a stint I wonder if I can still get my sleeve?  I know lots of people get an angiogram and it turns out to be a false alarm.  I really hope that is the case.  I am not cancelling my pre-op appt until I know for sure that there is a problem.  If everything is all good, do you think they will still do the surgery?  They use concious (sp?) sedation and valium for the procedure.

I wish I knew the answer to this!  I can't believe the rotten luck!  All I can say is, that sucks!  I know how much you want this all to happen.  Maybe you should call your patient advocate and ask.  That's what I would do for sure! What we need is HappyCat or Crickett!  Where are you gals!  Help my friend with an answer!

Amy, I PMed you.  I don't have any answers for you.  Call your patient advocate.  Dr. Broussard and your cardiologist should probably talk to each other.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Amy, it depends on what they find on the heart cath. The cath should go smoothly and if it's just a straight cath without any other procedures, you should recover quickly and be OK for surgery by your surgery date. If they find something, that will need to be addressed first before your VSG. If they do more than just the cath, it will be up to your cardiologist and your surgeon to decide when to do your VSG.

You will probably not remember most of the procedure since they usually use a drug with an amnesic effect during the procedure. I used to moonlight in the cath lab at University and worked in cardiology research at OUHSC. My husband goes to Dr. Schmidt and the Mercy Heart Hospital is an excellent place to be.

I will surely be keeping you in my prayers for your procedure and a really good outcome.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Well if the doc didn't require it, then why wouldn't the EKG be enough?  I would think that Doc would either approve your pre-op one stage at a time and if you've already completed it, hen call Jamie to find out if you're kosher with your stuff or you need further follow-up. I would ask the cardiologist if it wouldbe safe to do the bariatric afterwards or if there's any indication that the surgery would be complicated by it. I've got you in my thoughts and my prayers.  i know how important this is to you.... T.

Oklahoma Heat Hospital and Mercy Heart Hospital are one in the same. It is a great hospital!! I have been there many times and speak from experience! However...the ER head Dr. Dr. Quack...not his real name but close...He sucks!!! He sends every patient out of there with antiacids and it's just gas.....I have had to fight him on being admitted twice only to have blockages twice!!  The drugs are great!! The nurses are wonderful and you are in and out before you know it....or even if you have to stay....it's usually only one night.
