will an angiogram delay my surgery?
Amy- I had to have an angiogram, for the same reasons, because the stress test came back abnormal. I was told that it is common to have those results with overweight people; it turned out to be a false positive and I got the clearance for surgery. The procedure itself was painless and went back to work the next day. I know the whole thing sounds scary, I thought that for sure there was something wrong with me, but, it turned out ok, and I am sure yours will too. Definitely better to find out now if something is wrong! The only difference with me, was that I had the angiogram done in October 07 and my surgery was in February 08 (due to me taking my sweet time losing the pre-op weight!!), so there was not issue of time interference. So, on that you may want to call your patient advocate and see what they say. - Don't worry, it will work out fine - Anna
Thank God you listened to your own body!!! Ok talking from the stand point of having 3 heart stents, one being done in Jan of this year.... I do know that it is up to the Cardiologist on the timing here....My cardiologist said I have to pass my stress test and the apnea issue fixed, then he would ok me for the surgery. Mercy is a great hospital. The Angiogram will be done and if there is a blockage...they will do it then...or that is usually how it is done...however, having said that....I know many who have had the angio done and then have the stent put in a few days to a week later. This won't take away your dream, but it could delay it a little...not always!!! Recovery from a stent placement is usually uneventful....BUT you MUST not get over heated!! You MUST not lift for awhile...I know! I went to Sams one week after my 2nd stent, in 105 degree temp, tried to lift a 55lb bag of potting soil and colapsed over in Isle 5 or something....Abulances...the works...Not to mention they had to go in and see if the stent was clogged again.....DO what your Dr. says...like I said...it may not delay it at all ,or it could. The reason I hadn't come in to WW earlier was because my Dr. wants my stress test to be uneventful since the last stent, and he doesnt do them until 6 mo. from the placement sooooo I have been waiting and waiting....I will pray all goes well....but don't let the fear of not having the surgery cross your mind...it just could be delayed. Thank God they found this!!
It is an amazing thing...I always wanted to hug my Dr. and thank him for saving me over and over again!! I always looked at it as that! Never a bad thing. I am so grateful that I live in this day where they can find it, fix it and send you home in a day!! My dad was not that lucky! I swore each time...I'd lose this weight and be healthy....yet here I am not one lb less...not really any more either, but none lost. Another guilt trip for myself...You'd think that would be a wake up call....and it was, but the weight won't budge!
No your Dr. is not the Quack....The Quack's name actually starts with Q and I don't think he can operate any more as his hands tremble so much he couldn't. I think he only runs the ER or something....He is nice and all but as many times as I have gone in there and listened to what he tells the patients...I have learned alot about his methods....sorry to say!
I think all the actual cardiologists in that hospital are great. So rest easy in that. Hell if you had mine you would think he was a fruitcake!! haha! He is so perky and light hearted about the whole thing! But...The guy is great at what he does!! I love him! How could you not love someone who has saved you 3 times??? I'm not having number 4!
My husband has Dr. Ghani and Dr. Randolph did his open heart bypass in October. I tease my husband that if he's not nice to me I'm gonna tell my boyfriend Dr. Randolph. In the 5 days we were at the hospital he was so wonderful to us BOTH! I love Dr. Randolph!!! He saved my hubby's life!!!! It's easy to love someone who saves you or someone you love!!!!!
ONEDERLAND!!!! FINALLY!!!! WHOOOO HOOOOO!
