will an angiogram delay my surgery?
I actually had the same exact thing happen to me. Here's what I know from it. I had my angiogram/arteriogram or heart cath about 2 &1/2 weeks before my surgery at Mercy Heart Hospital. First of all, it's practically painless and the recovery time is about a day and half w/ no heavy lifting for a week to make sure your artery completely heals up. Mine was a false alarm so my surgery went ahead as planned. The cardiologist's nurse told me that if there had been a blockage I would have stayed over night in the hospital and it would have delayed my wls at least 6 weeks. I don't know if that's for everyone or not, but that was my experience. Hope it helps! Good luck. I hope it's nothing for you as well. Just think though, if it is something, it's surely better to find it and treat it now than to have surgery while there is something wrong with your heart! Good luck to you. I hope it all goes well. Let me know if you have any other questions or want to talk. Diana
Amy, first of all if there is a blockage it is a blessing that you found it now as oppossed to going under general anethesia. It very well could be a false alarm. The arteriogram itself will not stop you from having your scheduled surgery. However if there is a blockage that may detain you just a little bit. With that being said, it is still going to be okay. God spoke and you listened, and had it checked out. What a blessing? Let us know how it goes and I will be thinking of you.((((((HUGS)))))), Rita
Oh, Amy...I'm so sorry for this, but at the same time am tremendously happy that you listened to your body and had things checked out. My husband had a cerebral angiogram and his recovery time was only one day. He went back to work ( builds heat/air duct work) the next day. I'm praying that God will let this be a false alarm too and that your surgery can proceed as scheduled. Good luck! Wendy
Amy, the same thing happened to me, after my stress test, they called and told me I had an abnormal outcome, so they scheduled me for the angiogram, I was scared out of my mind. As soon as the angiogram was over, Dr. Ghani came in and said everything was fine and he would clear me for surgery. I've heard that overweight people show more abnormalities because the camera has to "look" thru more tissue. Anyway, Dr. B wouldn't do the surgery until they had the cardiac clearance, but Dr. Ghani provided that right after the angiogram was over. Don't cancel your pre-op appt until after your test is done. They told me the same stuff about having to get a stent, etc, but I bet yours will be a false alarm, as was a LOT of people's turned out to be on this board. Good luck and keep us posted!
