East Wind - Jello Leg Caution!

Anyone planning on biking tonight, beware of the wind from the east! It was worse than the wind from the south the past couple of weeks.

We tried to get our ride in early today to avoid any rain, but the east wind almost stopped me dead in my tracks! It's definitely a *Jello Leg Caution* day!

Diana, put on your elbow and knee pads! ; )

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

I had to go to Edmond to pick up my daughter who had spent the night with her cousin.  Alas, I didn't return to the south side soon enough to ride my bike before the skies got really yucky looking....so I think my elbows and knees are safe.  I still have a nice scab on my elbow.  Looks like I will get to walk on the treadmill tonight.

Just wondering if your bicycle is a Nuvenci?

I rode my new bike for the first time tonight and, man, that is a work out!  But I have a question.  My right knee was killing me when I got off.  Does that mean that my seat needs to be raised up?

I had a great ride!  Short but good!  The temperature was wonderful! Kim, unless your leg on the side the pedal is down is almost straight your seat is too low.  I am still working on getting mine right.  I may have to find a bike shop for some help.  Your instruction manual should have a picture of what your legs shoudl look like while seated.

My knee hurt so bad I was limping when I got off after only 15 minutes.  That can't be a good thing!

Kim, what gear were you riding in? Put your bike in a lower gear to take the strain off of your knee if it's from having to really push with force on the pedal. However, if it's from just pedaling motion, it may help to go up in your gears a bit to have less pedaling for more distance.

Also, if you need help getting your seat adjusted correctly, my husband or son-in-law said they'd be glad to help anyone out that needed it. Just PM me if you'd like us to come up and help out (and of course there would be no charge).

Another suggestion is to start out really slow and just gradually push yourself a little at a time. If you have any swelling in your knee, get it checked out by your PCP.

Kim your seat is too short.

As you lose weight (at least for me) I had to move my seat up the more weight I lost-my legs didn't get longer-my belly got smaller and changed my center of balance-but it took me a looooong time to figure that out-I kept taking the bike back and complaining that the seat was falling....LOL.

Also, easier gears and faster pedaling vs. harder gears and harder pedaling is easier on the knees (and the only way I can make it up a hill).

Thanks everyone!  I think you're right.  I think I need to raise my seat! Thank you for being so responsive!  I appreciate it! FYI - I kinda ride like a 1st grader after a pitcher of margaritas!  But I'm trying!

I know what you mean.  But I am better after less than a week.  I did great getting off the bike tonight until my shorts got hung up on the bike seat!  I am sure I was pretty funny to watch!  Getting on and off are the hardest part for me.
