High Blood Pressure - GONE!!!

This is my biggest and happiest change since surgery! I've had horribly high blood pressure for several years. One of the lupus drugs that I took years back seemed to tip me over the edge of hypertension. Since that time, I have been on MANY blood pressure medications in an attempt to control the beast. At times, I was on 5 medications just for high blood pressure simultaneously trying to get it to an acceptable range.

Well, guess what? Even after aerobic oven and stove top cleaning today, my blood pressure is that of a teenager!!! I haven't had any blood pressure medication in over a week! I still check it two or three times a day to make sure it's in the normal range ... and now I'm over a week out with normal blood pressure and absolutely no BP meds! I am absolutely thrilled! My PCP is thrilled, too! : ) This has indeed been the best thing I have done medically in ages!

I'm going to have to give Dr. Nelson and Erica big hugs at my 6 week post op visit. WLS for me has truly been wonderful ... even though I seem to be a bit of a slow loser, so far. But, I'm not complaining. : )

Now, I'm going to walk away some pounds with Leslie Sansone and then go bike riding later this evening.

I wish everyone very successful journeys to health and that your health improves every single day!

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

I think that's awesome.  I'm a slow loser too, but I think as long as we're losing, we're doing great.  My diabetes medicine always made it hard for me to lose weight, but I haven't taken any since my surgery.  I"m hoping I get to stay off of it!  I'm very happy for you about how healthy you are becoming and all your talk about biking and walking so much makes me want to walk more!  (not ready for the bike, yet!)

Thanks so much!

Don't be afraid to bike when you're ready. I, literally, hadn't been on a bike in *40 years*! I'm 52 and now can't wait to go on my daily ride. ; )

What kind of bike do you ride?  My husband had me trying a ten speed that was in our garage as part of my pre-surgery work-out.  I went one time aound the block and swore I wouldn't get on it again till I was at least 75 pounds lighter!   Maybe there would be a better bike to try?  I know it's good exercise and I dont want my body getting used to just walking.  I want to try to tone all over too.  I've been trying the bands, but feel really silly using them.

Diana, I ride a TREK Sole Ride 300. It's a cruiser but the model has been discontinued.

I highly recommend a cruiser of about any type over a mountain bike or racing type bike! Those are torture to me at this time. A cruiser lets you sit up straight and you can reach the handle bars with ease and no leaning forward. My bike, that I bought from hoodoowoman, even has a back on the seat. Plus, the seat is much more comfortable! Those tiny seats on racing bikes and mountain bikes are pure torture....plain and simple!

I also recommend getting a bike with at least 7 speeds. The 7 speeds are simple to use and it makes it MUCH easier to go up any inclines or hills...or when you're just tired. ; )

My husband has severe back problems and has had multiple surgeries. We have ordered him a Day 6 bike...the Journey. It should arrive tomorrow.

You will be amazed how quickly your endurance will increase and your miles will build up. Surely it's helping me build some muscle, too. And, it's just good fun and enjoyable.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Thanks!  I'll start pricing them.  My husband still owes my mother's day gift anyway.  He had talked about buying me a better bike, but I told him I'd rather wait and buy clothes when I finally dropped a few sizes.  I guess the bike would help me do that!  I would love to go riding around Lake Hefner.  I always walk around there and am envious of all the people in such good shape riding all around.

You go, gal!  Congratulations!  That is better than any weight loss any day, I think.  I mean, after all, this is about health more than anything else.  Of course, looking better is important too but health is A-1 !  So glad you shared this info.  I'm off my twice a day water pill and down to only 1/2 of the other bp pill since surgery.  I'm going to start checking my pressure because I think I will be able to go off soon too.  (crossing fingers!)  Denise, HappyCat, is already off! What a miracle!  And God bless these surgeons that dedicate themselves to the disease of obesity.  They surely are earning their wings!

No kidding! I couldn't agree more!

I was afraid my blood pressure problem was going to always be there since it had been so severe for quite some time. Many times it was 220/150 routinely a couple of years ago. Recently it had been a bit better, but only with lots of medication ... and still only maybe 180/110. Today, after aerobic oven cleaning it was 119/75. And that was after a week of absolutely NO medication! : )

Oh, and one other thing.  Do you hire out for the aerobic oven cleaning?  I could use that!

Kim, I'd do it for you for free! However, I don't think I'd be able to sleep afterward for feeling guilty about robbing you of all the physical benefits available with that wonderful activity. ; )
