I'm suddenly nauseous!
Denise:
The standard dietary at WW is to give you "guidelines" in regards to portion and types of foods that you should be eating. The only time I have had any calories discussed was when I was on my pre-op (years ago! things are a little different now) I was put on a 1200 cal diet which was high in protein, low in carb, low in fat. I did that for 6 weeks (approx) and lost 26 lbs before surgery. It was not "required" that I lose that but Dr. W was happy that I did.
The emphasis is on trying to get you trained to eat the right foods, not become restricted to counting. That is very limiting and if you can do it without the counting, you will do it every time no matter what because you won't have to think about it.
Just remember how successful the majority of patients are that are going through WW. Have you seen a patient who "overall" was NOT successful in their efforts? I would find it hard to put my finger on any one. The program has it together and tweaks as it is needed to make it the best outcome for each of us. Remember to trust them.
Hang in there!!

Denise, there are online sites that may help you find your protein goal. Just do a google search for *daily protein requirement*. My dietician did a mathematical formula that included my age (52), weight, height (5'5") and also took into consideration my medical history and figured my daily protein requirement for recovery from surgery and healthy weight loss. I was given a daily goal/requirement of 85 grams of protein. The notebook we receive is full of dietary specifics and recommendations. Also, 64 ozs. of liquid daily (not to include the protein supplements as liquids). When I was stalled, one of the registered dieticians, Abby, told me to up my caloric intake since my body had probably gone into starvation mode. She wanted me to up it to 850 per day, or even 1000 calories per day. I was able to do that quite easily with an extra Chike or two per day. And, lo and behold, the stall broke. I hope you're feeling much better today! : ) Of course, I would check for specifics with your dietician before making any changes.
I have had dehydration both before and after surgery and it feels the same both times. The last few days being as hot and humid as they have been i have drank a LOT of water. I drank a lot to begin with but I bet today alone I drank 4 bottles of aquafina, nearly an entire 2 quart jug of Crystal Light Fruit Punch, and a V-8 can after dinner. Thats a LOT for me. I am even drinking another Aquafina as I type this, lol. I have really started grabbing a bottle of water everywhere I go too. Wal-Mart?....grab a bottle. Target?...grab on in there. Mall?...grab a bottle or hit the water fountains regularly. I go into QuikTrip a lot more often now too and get a Dasani or Aquafina and a Crystal Light flavor packet and I am good to go. Drink til you cant drink no more is my motto now. Stay hydrated girl, and be safe.
I started my morning (well after my Protonix!) with 1/2 of an EAS lite drink. I have now started on my liquids for the day. I will try hard to make at least 64 oz today. I will finish the protein drink later in the AM. My tummy said it had enough calories for now. I am trying to drink more slowly and that has reduced my liquid intake. I guess it is going to be steamy all week! Yuck!
How much extra liquid do you guys think I should shoot for while I am on vacation in the dessert in a few weeks? We are going to Santa Fe for my birthday!!!
