I feel amazingly well considering what I had done to me lastt Friday.  I am off pain meds except for Tylenol.  I feel good.  Energy level is definitely not up to normal but I didn't expect it to be.  I am having no trouble getting all my liquids in at this point.  It doesn't hurt to drink.  I thought that first drink would be scary but it was no big deal. My care at the hospital was wonderful- as expected.  Thanks to all who babied me. I have added some protein shakes to my diet because I was really fatigued and a little dizzy.  I do feel better with the protein.  My tummy is amazingly talkative!  Gurgle, gurgle, bubbble!  Kind of amusing.  It had my son cracking up.  I did learn that my tummy does NOT want cold water when it is empty!  I tried that one night when I got up to go to the bathroom.  I decied since it had been so many hours since I had a drink I should get some liquid in so I go****er from the fridge like always- bad idea!  My little tummy cramped up big time.  If I have a warm liquid first then I can go cold the rest of the day. Walking girls- if I come walk omn Saturday would you promise not to kill me?  Since I will only be a week post-op I am wondering if it is a week too early?  What do you think? Denise

Congratulations, Denise,  on doing so well so quickly!  I'm 5 weeks out and it still bothers me to drink cold drinks, and my tummy still likes to make all the noises.  Sometimes, if it's too noisy I use gasx strips and that seems to help. :)  Sugar-free hot chocolate and hot teas are my friends! I walked about 2 miles 6 days post-op and I was fine.  It's all about your energy level.  Look foward to meeting you!  Diana

Denise:  The girls about killed ME last Saturday!!! My thigh muscles are still sore!!  But we can slow down - make it easier for little you!!! I am glad you are doing well!  It will be no time before you have named your new little tummy with a variety of monikers!!!!  Mine STILL talks to me too!!! Hang in there!  If you want to drive up with me Saturday, let me know!  I don't have a problem with that!  I just have to stop by Starbucks before we go..and that is over by your house anyway!! LOL WOOHOO!!!

Wow, you must be doing great if you are already thinking about walking on Saturday.  I'm glad you mentioned the first drink because I have been worried about that myself.  It is good to hear it wasn't a problem for you.

I actually asked the pre-op nurse (who had VSG) about that first drink since I was worried about it.  She assured me it was no big deal and she was right.  I got ice chips first and they felt great so water was a nonissue when they brought it to me. I still have some pain- which is to be expected.  My tummy is amazingly bruised from the surgery.  I bruise easily and then with 2 injections of a blood thinner it was inevitable.  I am very colorful!  Nothing has been that surprising except- green pee!  I almost forgot that part.  For about the first 24 hours my urine was green.  My guess is that my was passing the blue dye they use to test for leaks.  I asked the nurse and she agreed with my guess.  So, don't be freaked out when your urine is green! Denise, I was up walking after I woke up from surgery....the more you walk the less you hurt. But going distance wise I would becareful. Talk small walks first then build yourself up.better safe then sorry.. The first time I dranked anything at home it was after 11pm and I forgot to sip took a gulp and ended up wearing it all down my night shirt plus the floor learned my lesson fast...
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

Congratulations on your progress Denise!  It just gets better and better as the weeks go by.  I can't believe it's really only been three weeks today - so many things have changed already!! Important for you know now - my bruises are now all gone, and practically all of the glue over my incisions has come off!   (It was all I could do not to pick at that glue, but I didn't..)  And - I was able to eat a small hamburger patty today, and some crab meat!!!  I still have issues with scrambled eggs, but there are starting to be som many options.  I just know you'll continue to be thrilled with your choice! Have a great week! John
