Hit the wall..
Man - I feel crappy today... I don't know for sure that it is related to my surgery, but wanted to throw it out here and see if anyone had any insight.
Last night I had a low grade fever - around 100 most of the evening. Then I tossed and turned all night with body aches and went back and forth between too hot and too cold. This morning I woke up and it seemed that every joint in my body ached, and I just don't have any energy. It was almost 9:00 before I could get off to work, and now I'm at my desk trying real hard to stay awake and not drool on my keyboard.
Any ideas? I wondered if I should be trying to eat more... I have really been eating only once a day this week since I started soft proteins. I am keeping up with my fluids, but now I wonder if I need to find some way to get more food/protein in to be able to keep going.
Any ideas/info would be greatly appreciated if I can stay awake long enough to see them...
Thanks,
John
John, my first thought is that it sounds like you're catching a bug. But, if that's not it, then I'd say try to up your fluids and food intake. My dietician said NO skipping meals and to have 2 healthy snacks per day in addition to meals. I've been freezing and feeling like I could sleep all day, but no temp at all. I've been researching this week, and I have classic signs of my metabolism trying to come to a screeching halt to save calories. The drastic difference in our caloric intake has our bodies thinking that we are starving and our metabolism slows to barely a crawl. The ways to bump up your metabolism are to up your nutrition and calorie intake, exercise (not lifting or weights yet), and make sure you're getting plenty of water and protein. It stinks and I've hit a stall ... and all I want to do is crawl under the covers and sleep.... at least that's how I feel. Be sure you're taking all your vitamins and supplements. Keep hitting your protein goal ... my dietician has me with a daily goal of 85 gms of protein. If you keep having an elevated temp, definitely call your doctor! I hope you feel better soon.
John, your symptoms sound like what I was having the first full week after surgery. Jess told me it was partially because I wasn't getting enough nutrients in my body, so I would suggest eating all three of your meals, and maybe drinking a protein shake in the mornings to give your body a jump start. Slim Fast has a really good chocolate low bard shake that we can have, along with the Atkins Advantage shakes, just don't get the cafe mocha ones, lol. They have caffiene in them....Hope you start feeling better soon. Just know that we are all here for you!
Dude! I'm sure there are electronics around! You are in a no drooling zone!
I'm sorry you're not feeling well. I would think that if you are running a fever you must have a bug of some kind that you're fighting. So it's probably unrelated to your surgery? Unless your incisions look red and mad. If that's the case, call WW!
My prescription for you is a 3 day weekend starting tomorrow!!!
Kim
Ladies,
Thank you all for you input and suggestions. I think the prize for closest diagnosis goes to Charlotte (Cat59) and Shelly (Harris2). By the time I got home from work, my 10 year old had come home from school and gone straight to bed and my my wife had come home early from work sick to her stomach. I'm voting for a touch of the crud that's apparently in the air.
As for prescriptions, I really like Kim's idea of the extended weekend best, but I did take everyone's advice and make it a point to get some protein this evening. I made chicken livers sauteed in the tiniest bit of olive oil in my non-stick skillet. YUM! I think this qualifies as a soft protein source the way I cooked them, and they were delicious. I was actually able to eat almost three livers before I started to feel full... but that was my first actual food today.
Anyhow, I think we are all feeling a little better now... hopefully we'll be well before the holiday starts.
Have a great evening!
John
